About May Queen

May Queen Campground is located at the far western end of Turquoise Lake in a shaded lodgepole pine forest. Conveniently perched near the Charles Boustead Memorial Tunnel, May Queen offers easy access to boating, fishing and hiking. Incredible views of the Holy Cross and Mount Massive Wildernesses can be seen from the area, and visitors are likely to see native wildlife like chipmunks, beavers and porcupines. The Charles Boustead Memorial Tunnel is a 5.5-mile tunnel that transports water from the Fryingpan and Roaring Fork River Basins through the Continental Divide to the Arkansas River Basin by emptying water into Turquoise Lake.

What Guests Are Saying

May Queen campground is consistently praised for its beautiful and serene environment, well-maintained facilities, and responsive camp host, Dan, who ensures a safe experience, especially during emergencies. Many campers appreciate the spacious and private sites, clean amenities, and excellent fishing opportunities. However, some negative feedback includes issues with campsite accessibility, water availability, and challenges with refunds from the booking service. Overall, it remains a favored destination among visitors.

Beautiful trails to walk and site are close to the lake and river. Site hosts are extremely friendly and each site is a pull-through making it easy to drive in and out.

All of the sites are great. The campground host has wonderful hiking suggestions. Great place to stay with kids of hiking/exploring age.

It was a very nice and quiet campground. We had a beautiful remote site toward the back of the park. The facilities were very clean. My only complaint were the mosquitos, flies and bees while cooking (it was due to a rainy spring and unavoidable). Bring repellent and citronella candles! Beautiful hiking trails were very close with abundant wild flowers and lakes! I highly recommend May Queen campground.

Great location along the lake. Lots of mosquitos. Saw a bald eagle, which was a great way to end our camping journey.

A wonderful campground with very nice host couple. Our site 22 was very spacious with a magnificent view of Turquoise Lake and the mountains. The bathrooms were kept very clean. Kayaking on the lake brought us close to several bald eagles along the shore.
