MAY QUEEN

About May Queen

May Queen Campground is located at the far western end of Turquoise Lake in a shaded lodgepole pine forest. Conveniently perched near the Charles Boustead Memorial Tunnel, May Queen offers easy access to boating, fishing and hiking. Incredible views of the Holy Cross and Mount Massive Wildernesses can be seen from the area, and visitors are likely to see native wildlife like chipmunks, beavers and porcupines. The Charles Boustead Memorial Tunnel is a 5.5-mile tunnel that transports water from the Fryingpan and Roaring Fork River Basins through the Continental Divide to the Arkansas River Basin by emptying water into Turquoise Lake.

We love this campground! Definitely better than what I saw from pictures and reviews.

We stayed at site 2 and my brother and his fam stayed at site 1. Which worked well as they are both tucked back up the hill and have a clear path between the two.

Nice distance from the creek. A little bit of a walk to the pit toilets but nothing too crazy. The walking path is right between site 3 and 4, when we were unloading we decided to come through site 1 (which was more walking) to not bother the other campers as much. There’s not bear box on site so you have to keep everything in your car and just transport it for meal times. Not too bad though.

The main issue we had with site #2 that wasn’t clear was how close our tent had to be from the fire pit. I’ll admit, our tent is a little large since all six of sleep in there but with the fly there was only a few feet from the pit to our tent fly. Smoke definitely came into the tent.

The kids loved the big rock and hiking up the hill to the larger rocks.

This was our favorite camp site so far in our travels to Colorado. We will be back.
