About Molly Brown

Named after the "unsinkable" Molly Brown on the Titanic, Molly Brown Campground, on the eastern shore of Turquoise Lake, sits in a shaded lodgepole pine forest. The campground offers access to boating, fishing, and hiking. The famous Molly Brown lived in the town of Leadville, just 5 miles east of the campground. She became wealthy from her husband's mining success and took on a life as a philanthropist, socialite and activist.

What Guests Are Saying

Molly Brown campground is praised for its beautiful location, spacious sites, and excellent amenities, such as clean restrooms and attentive hosts. Campers appreciate the stunning sunsets, proximity to hiking trails, and activities like paddleboarding and biking. However, a recurring concern is the lack of potable water, which requires guests to bring their own supplies.

Campground hosts were very nice. Bathrooms were the cleanest I've ever seen. We really enjoyed our time there!

What a beautiful lake! Crystal clear waters and amazing scenery on all sides. Thank you so much for making this campground reservable on RECREATION.GOV; otherwise it would be completely impractical to drive up here just hoping to get an open campsite!

We found the campground facilities to be clean and well kept by the camp hosts.

Site #7 was reasonably level and we were able to level up our camper with minimal effort. There are no hookups at individual campsites within this campground, but there are shared water spigots throughout the campground, although several of the spigots were out of order during our visit in June 2020. The spigots are not intended for use in filling up camper holding tanks, please arrive with your fresh water holding tank filled.

If you get a campsite anywhere near the lake shore, expect a lot of foot traffic near, and/or through, your campsite as self-absorbed campers will tromp the route that is most convenient for themselves to reach the water. The campground does have some established paths, and of course paved roads, that folks could use to get tot he water, but if they can save a dozen steps by inconveniencing someone else, in our experience, they undoubtedly will. But HEY! That is not the fault of this campground, just a symptom of our society nowadays.

Cell coverage at Molly Brown was extremely limited and mostly spotty. There were a few times when we had data coverage and would receive a text message from our kids, but most of the time is was 1X 'voice only' coverage.

The campground has vault toilets. No flush toilets, showers, or dump station. The Leadville Sanitation District has a dump station for $5 per visit located at GPS Coordinates: 39.2399, -106.3029; and the Forest Service reportedly offers a dump station at GPS coordinates: 39.2687, -106.3465; although we did not drive by to see if the Forest Service dump station was operational.

Very nice campsite. Wooded and private about 300 yards from the lake. Vault toilets and trash receptacles all very clean. Nice picnic tables and fire pit. We would camp here again.
