This campground was great! The road is completely paved throughout the campground. We stayed in site 013 which was very flat and roomy. We really appreciated that because we got there after dark to set up the popup trailer! The provided bear proof locker was great to have to store our food. This would be a great campground for families that have kids that want to ride their bikes or scooters around.

A nice place to stay. Experience was marred by thick smoke from wildfires, road closures, and stage 2 fire restrictions. That didn't stop some campers though. They had blazing campfires at night. None of this reflects on Camp Hale Memorial though. It's a good camping place.

We chose this campground because of it's vicinity to Segment 8 of the Colorado Trail. For that reason, it was perfect for our needs. However, we generally enjoy camping very far away from road noise. Hwy 24 is VERY close and there are several jeep roads, so there was quite a bit of traffic noise. The trees were sparse in our site (#13), but it really is the luck of the draw...some sites had more shade and some less. The history of the area is fascinating and we enjoyed learning about Camp Hale. I enjoying being able to meet up with my family after hiking the Colorado Trail Segment from Copper Mtn. to Tennessee Pass. The area is beautiful.
Vaults were spotless. There is no cell service or water at this campground. We knew that going into it, so it wasn't a huge deal for us.

The camp host and his little dog were great! The bathrooms were nicely kept. The location was great for all kinds of activities. Loads of wildlife and history. The campsites were nicely spaced out, which offered a bit of privacy. Firewood can be purchased from the camp host.
