Zapata Falls Campground

This was part of two sites I had reserved, the other was next door at site 36. Both sites have great views of the dunes and for all your activities in the Valley, it's perfect.

The new loop looks much better than the original loop. Yet the website description makes no mention of the new loop. It also states the road is being upgraded. But that’s completed. Site 38 was fantastic.

Great location. Helpful host. Quiet and beautiful view. Would stay again.

Very clean, excellent camping!!

Tent Site 13 was so beautiful! Amazing views and stars, wow. Bathroom is close by. Although the campground was full, it didn’t feel like we were right next to our neighbors.

Clean and well maintained. Located right at the Zapata Falls trailhead. Very convenient to the Great Sand Dunes. Would recommend.

Great location!

We have never arrived at a campsite like this before. Site 20 should not be considered a campsite. It’s located on a very rocky, uneven hill with virtually no flat ground for a tent. We ended up having to set up next to our car because it was the only relatively flat area, but that space is directly next to the road where cars drive, which made it far from comfortable for sleeping.

The ground was also extremely hard and rocky. We bent and broke multiple tent stakes trying to get them into the ground and ultimately could not properly secure our tent. We asked the host if we could move to another site, but unfortunately every other site was booked.

We made it work for two nights, but the site was far from ideal and not what we expected from a designated campsite.

Although a primitive campground, the views were spectacular! Appreciate the paved road to the campground. The road inside the campground had some serious wholes.

Nice campground. Our site was note very level. Had to do a lot of blocking. The road up to the camp site is steep but paved and in good condition. We were in a class a diesel pusher.
