Such a clean, well-maintained campground! And the views are incredible. This was my second time here and both sites I've stayed in were great!

Love this campground, been coming here several years! Nice views. Not a fan of the camp host this year, unfortunately. Instead of a simple welcome to the campground, if not reserved please go online and reserve your site at recreation.gov he rambled on about some unclear stuff I couldn’t really understand. Made me feel a bit unwelcome. Anyhow, enjoy the summer camping adventures everyone!

Somewhat windy last week of March. One of the best times to see Zapata Falls totally frozen however. Majestical!

So amazing. I stayed at spot 13 in mid-March. I felt relatively safe as a solo female car-camper. It was windy! Extremely great star gazing. Spot 13 is close to the bathroom (vault toilet, no lights). The view is amazing. Easy to find (I was worried about the drive up the hill but I navigated it at sundown just fine, it’s paved) and it’s down the street from Great Sand Dunes. Probably my favorite camping stay on a long trip through the Southwest. Trash facilities by the bathroom.

Very quiet, no one at campsite, very remote, could see all the stars

Campground was well kept and stocked despite it being off season. Lovely location as well.

Love Zapata - especially in the winter when no one else is around! Great sites to choose from.

Love this campground. Some sites may struggle accommodating multiple tents, you might want to reserve multiple. Excellent views of the valley, sunset, and stars. I visited in June 2021 and saw the falls. Returned in December 2022 to see the frozen falls, which was possibly the coolest thing I’ve seen in Colorado! Totally worth it if you can brave a cold night.
