The views were breath taking and the camp host kept the bathrooms clean. The campground is not all that big so there was no a lot of traffic noise. The Zapata Falls trailhead is right at the entrance to the campground which made for an easy track from our site. The Sand Dunes are a very short jaunt away, and Alamosa was about a 20-30 minute drive if you wanted to escape into town for a lunch. The road up to the grounds has been significantly upgraded so it's not the old rock and boulder drive up.

the improvements to the road to the campground were amazing. The views are always spectacular. The host was friendly. some folks were using generators during quiet hours, but that is hard to enforce

Dirt road was in excellent shape, falls were a great short hike and well worth it.

Biggest problem was reservation system. We got the only available site online, yet one third of the sites were empty with unused reservations

This is a great, quiet campground. The spots are spaced out nicely, and there was plenty of room to pitch our tent.
Our only complaint is that there is a fire ban in effect for the campground, but we weren't able to find information about it online before arriving. The county is under Stage 1 fire ban, which allows for fires within established fire rings. The National Park just down the road allows fires under Stage 1, but this campground does not. Please find a way to post clearly on the website.

A lot of people have commented about how bad the 3 mile road up to the campground is and we were worried about this but as of 10June2022 they have regraded the road and there are no larger rocks/boulders that would keep you from going up or make it a rough 30-60 min drive. At it's worst there are some dips in the road and washboards but all cars were going up with ease including accords, imprezza, minivan, civic, etc. It took about 10 min to get up going 20mph.
As far as the sites, we stayed at #9, tent site, which is great. Very large area, not really any neighbors, some trees. All sites have bear boxes. Only downside is the knats & flies are the worst I've experienced. Screened canopy highly recommend and some sort of fly catcher. Oh and the heat is brutal out here. Bathrooms are pretty far away from #9. Good luck.
Host is very diligent going around keeping everything up to date.
Minus 1 star due to plague level knats, no water on the campgrounds, and bathrooms can be quite the trek depending on your site but are clean. Otherwise a great campground (KOA tried to charge me $20 to fill up my 5 gallon jug - bring lots of water!).

The campground was great! Our site was spacious enough for our 8-person tent and then some. We had a beautiful sunset across the dunes as well. The 4-mile drive in is gravel and has some uneven areas, but we traversed it just fine in the minivan so no concerns there. We arrived at sundown so the host checked in with us the following day, nice guy!

Great campground hosts, clean campsites and facilities. Very close to Great Sand Dunes NP. No water, so be sure to bring what you need.
