Matterhorn

Camp host and hostess were perfect. Campground was kept clean. The area has great fly fishing with a 20 minute drive in all directions. Already have plans to return.

The campground is quite far from Telluride and much higher and colder but it is beautiful with nice hiking trails.

We had a great site with full hookups in the national forest. It was nice to get away from the tourist feel of Telluride at night. The campground managers were very friendly and helpful. The area had really been developed for tourists since we were there with our kids 30 years earlier!
We took the free gondola ride from Mountain Village to Telluride a few times to visit the town and hike Bear Creek Trail to the waterfall and the Village Trail down the ski slope. The elevation was around 9500’ so although we had been at a high elevation, we still felt winded.
We drove to Delores to see the Canyon of the Ancients Museum and the Galloping Goose Railroad Museum. The volunteers at the railroad museum were enthusiastic and had good stories about the odd railroad. On the way home we took the Trout Lake Road and saw one of the old train trestles and a water tower from that era.
The Delores Hardware Store was typical for a small town with everything, including good ice cream cones.

This is one of our all time favorite National Forest campgrounds. The campground is immaculate, views are spectacular and it's close to the Telluride gondolas so there is no need to fight parking in town. Staff is always very helpful.

Matterhorn Campground is a small, quiet camping area located just off of the highway about 12 miles from Telluride, CO. The camp site are large with gravel access, fire pits and several have RV hook-ups. Several camp sites are located up against the national forest with spectacular views and access to wildlife. There is a creek running along side the campground with good fishing and access to wildlife - deer and bear have been seen along the creek. The camp hosts have always been helpful and facilities are cleaned on a daily basis.

Couldn't be much better, staff was so welcoming and attentive to campers and to the facility. Campground was in great shape despite heavy use, clean bath and showers. It's a small campground, I'd say no sites are bad sites.

We loved our quiet, shady spot at #18. We're close to two toilets and just a short drive away from Mountain Village, where we rode the free gondola over the mountain to Telluride. Will come back again!
