Olive Ridge

We selected this particular campsite due to its close proximity to the Longs Peak trailhead. The campsite is a community style campground that offers nice amenities such as level, raised tent-staking beds, picnic table, large bear box, nearby trash cans (bear proof) and a couple privies. There are plenty of tall pines in the site that provide shade and filtered sunlight. Despite there not being much visible privacy, you do still have a definite sense that you have your own spot. We found the noise discipline to be above average for community camping. For one day of our 4 day stay, we were reminded of the value of peace and quiet with our neighbor’s whiny child and generator - electric breakfast.
For added privacy, etc. I would recommend a fringe site rather than interior site.
Overall, a wonderful place to pitch a tent and call home. I would definitely recommend.

The USFS Campground at Redstone CO has electricity and water at each site and flush toilet and shower amenities as do other Forest Service campgrounds throughout America. Given your close proximity to RMNP whose campgrounds fill quickly; you may want to consider doing the same. Of course there are pros and cons in doing so, but we would stay at more forest service campgrounds near National Parks if such amenities were provided. Other than that, we found the Olive Ridge location and campground to be convenient, well maintained, and scenic.

Pros: Camp site was very clean, camp host very friendly, not far from home.

Cons: very loud traffic on the main road all night long. Not many adventures within walking distance, this is more of a base camp to go drive to hikes etc. Limited privacy between camp sites.

A more isolated camping experience. Not necessarily insane views, but a short drive to Estes Park. Sites are somewhat private and very well marked and maintained. Overall very nice property. Would camp here again if hiking in the Rockies!

This campground is booked solid for a reason. Close to many good things. Nice spacing. It is a crime that it is not kept open longer in the season. The campground could easily be open until mid-November.

Very nice campsites - level & clean with privacy 7 shade from large pines. Its location on the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park is ideal.

Olive Ridge is a spacious campground a couple miles north of Allenspark and just off the SE edge of Rocky Mountain Park. It offers easy access to the Wild Basin trailhead and is only a short drive south of the resort town of Estes Park. Campground was relatively clean and quiet, restrooms were well-tended and largely odor-free. We picked Site #48 so as to be back in the corner where our two dogs would be most comfortable. The site itself was a back-in and a bit unlevel rising up and to the right, requiring a good bit of uplifting on both the left side and front. Good space to park the truck when necessarily unhooked. Picnic table was an unusually-long way from the parking, maybe 75'. Not a big deal but strange (and unnecessary). Good loops around the campground to walk the dogs. Campground was also strangely unutilized during our visit in the middle of the summer. Maybe people just don't know about it? Good opportunities for those w/o reservations. Recommend the campground as there are a variety of sites on different loops, some more wooded and quiet than others. Will look forward to returning in the future.

Great site! Quiet and spacious

Recent updates to the campground include water and a friendly, knowledgeable host. The proximity to the Wild Basin entrance is a plus.
