I love this campground. Very, very clean....nice spaces. Each has its own bear box so you don't have to share. Kayaking on Brainard is so enjoyable. There isn't a bad space in the place, as far as I can tell.

Only giving 4/5 stars not because of the campground, but the people who book this place out 6 months in advance and then don’t show up for their reservation. We found a single Sunday night cancellation and I took off work to camp thru Monday. The entire place was booked all weekend online, but there were 7 completely empty / unused spots while we were there. Seems people just book a spot right away and don’t bother to cancel when they’re not going to use it.

Restrooms are toxic with Oder eaters. I came here to be in the fresh air, not to be poisoned by chemicals in the bathroom.

There are good reasons to require parking permits however, when there are a handful of cars in the parking lot, most spots open and I have paid for camping, to be threatened with the sheriff and a citation if I drive up to the trailhead seems like no consideration for the mobility impaired and I can’t buy a parking permit when I’m here. We don’t need more things online; there needs to be a way to do things on site so that we can be in the natural world. They’re overstaffed and just trying to charge more money

The national Forest has been taken over by private companies making way too much money, obsessed with their rules, and no consideration or hospitality for the public.

I came up here for peace and quiet and now I’m having to listen to people’s generators. There doesn’t seem to be any rules about turning those off.

The Reservation system is not working 1/3 to a half of the campground is empty with no-shows. There’s no reward or canceling or penalty for no shows. Peoples lack of respect is shown by food left in the fire ring. The crows come to clean up their mess.

Great campsite, with lots of privacy and afternoon shade, plus close enough to the bathroom, but not too close. It's a straight shot down the road to the lake. Could easily roll a kayak to the lake without having to drive over. The Moose loop has more trees, but the other loop is starting to get some small trees growing back since the blow down. Very well maintained sites in both loops, with level parking and big tent pads. Each site also has a big bear box. Parking at the trailheads is not included with camping, so be sure to get a parking permit if you want to drive to the trailheads. Otherwise it's 1.17 miles to Mitchell parking area, so not bad, and there's a very nice walking trail, so you don't have to walk on the road.

Unfortunately my campsite didn’t have the first tree. I wasn’t allowed to use any of the other picnic areas in the park. The camp hosts were wonderful!! The trails were wonderful. Probably some of the best I’ve done
