Pinon Flats is the perfect spot to enjoy the Great Sand Dunes. We walked from our campsite out onto the dunes to watch the sun set. It was Magical! Easy walk back before dark. The bathroom facilities were exceptionally clean and included dishwashing sink and flushing toilets. We used the RV Dump on our way out which also provided potable water.
The pride the rangers and all the care takers have is evident in this park!

site 12 was very nice, pretty spacious compared to the others, besides the tend bed there’s at least two more spots for additional tents. parking might fit two mid size cars, we arrived on a GMC Sierra and I assume if we were to need to park a second car, they’d fit with like a 5” gap in between
the site right before ours (11?) was very close and although we could move in deeper into our campsite away from the neighbors, their site was so tight, right by the road with not that much space: fire pit, tent bed and table were all within a few feet from each other. glad we didn’t reserve that one. next campsite #14 was across a dried creek, so neither of us saw or bothered each other
short 10 min walk to the dunes
there’s a tiny camp store 3 min away with basic necessities to purchase
the main (an the only?) concern was that the bear locker didn’t lock up. the door closes but when you rotate the handle nothing happens and the lock doesn’t hook up, keep that in mind
overall very pleased with our experience!

Nice campground. It’s sad that the National Parks can’t get a better booking system for campgrounds. A lot of “no shows” don’t allow for others to utilize campsites that go un-occupied.

Nice site. Rockwork surrounding site needs repair. A rock step needed from parking area into the picnic/tent area. Improved pathway needed from site to bathrooms, including steps to accommodate the 3 foot drop to restrooms.
