This is a great US Forest Service campground located in between the quaint mountain towns of Dillon and Silverthorne. The campground has campsites offering water and electric hookups as well as dry camping sites for trailers and RVs and several tent-only sites. This campground DOES NOT have a dump station on-site, however the local municipality maintains a dump station approximately 5 miles from the campground which may be used for a minimal charge of $5 per use. The dump station is located at the following GPS coordinates: 39.5666, -106.0524 . Campers at Heaton Bay campground will enjoy strong cellular coverage from both AT&T and Verizon.
This campground is situated along the shores of the Dillon reservoir and offers easy access to a wide variety of water based recreational activities including fishing, sailboarding and kayaking. Additionally, there is a paved bike trail that runs right through the campground and allows easy access to the local communities which offer groceries, fuel and other retail services. If you are looking for remote, isolated camping experience, this is not the campground for you. If you are looking for a campground offering convenient access to explore these local communities, then you may want to consider Heaton Bay. We would definitely stay here again.
