About Heaton Bay

Heaton Bay Campground is situated at an elevation of 9 ft and centrally located for recreation and relaxation in the White River National Forest. There is little or no shade in the campground due to pine beetle infestation and the removal of hazard trees, but the sites offer open views to Dillon Reservoir and several mountain ranges.

What Guests Are Saying

Heaton Bay Campground is highly praised for its friendly hosts, clean facilities, and beautiful surroundings, making it a great spot for camping, hiking, and biking. While some visitors noted the low water levels and lack of a dump station as drawbacks, the campground's well-maintained sites and proximity to Dillon and Frisco for shopping and dining were appreciated. Overall, campers enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and scenic views, with many expressing a desire to return despite minor inconveniences.

Great campground! We had beautiful spots right near the water, with a view of an Osprey nest. Despite being right off of I-70, it feels really secluded, with lots of trees to provide shade.

Great location! Next to the Dillon Reservoir, with a beautiful paved bike path that runs right through the campground. I actually rode my bike to Breckenridge for lunch one day. The towns of Frisco, Silverthorne and Dillon are all < 5 mi from the campground. Hiking opportunities are endless. The campground host were very nice, and did a great job keeping the vault toilet clean. I look forward to visiting again soon.

The location of this campground is mainly the reason for the 5 stars. The bike & walking trails that surround it are insanely beautiful! We did a 3 mi bike ride east to the Dillon Damn Brewery with some seriously breathtaking views & later that day, a 2 mi bike ride west to Natural Grocers - also great views. The campground doesn’t feel like it’s near any of that! We stayed at site E81 with a rooftop tent. The bathroom was about a 40 second walk from our truck to the bathroom door, but far enough away that we still had enough privacy. 360 degree views of the mountains & parts of the lake and plenty of trees surrounding so we didn’t feel like we were camping with our neighbors. I highly recommend this campground! We’ve stayed on the east side of the lake before & it’s pretty but not as great as the west side!

Awesome campground and location. Bike ride away from Frisco and Silverthorne. Kajak and paddle boarder enthusiasts have access to lake. Gorgeous views!!
