Disappointing experience and we moved over to Heaton Bay CG after day 2 of our 4 night stay. The campground does not have any water (dry well) and is quite dusty. In addition, our site was marked as vacant/available the day we arrived despite holding the reservation for approx 6 months. We got it worked out but this mix up could have been challenging to solve for if the spot had been taken.

Pros: very big site (almost felt like a double site) since so many trees had been taken down for fire prevention; good location close to the vault toilets and trash bins but not TOO close; no views of the water (those are in loop D/E) but did have a small view of the mountains; vault toilets were clean, stocked, and not stinky; strong cell service (Verizon); no bugs (this could’ve been because it was windy but I don’t think so)
Cons: There was no afternoon shade in this site. It was okay in the morning, but because so many of the trees had been removed for fire prevention, it meant there was no shade on the main tent pad and picnic table at the site for about 8 hours of sun. Just bring a sun shade and you’ll be good! Also, we are in a drought and I recognize that all of the campsites across CO are going to be dry- but this site had so many dirt areas that they turned into dust pits. Be warned if you’re tent camping. I would still stay in this site, but I would just prepare a little differently in the future.

Great campground, clean facilities (as clean as you get at a campground). Fire pits and tables in good condition. Clean campground. Will definitely be going back!

Unfortunately this was a total party campground. There were several sites who were screaming and listening to music until 2am and no camp host in sight.
There also was not much shade protection.

Nice campground with easy, quick access to everything in Summit County. Clean restrooms and quiet. Will definitely stay there again.

Great sites. Fairly private as there are numerous trees. May was cold but quiet. I stay here often.

Under staffed no one willing to stop camp sight 49 from partying all night the first night while their two large dogs roamed free or when left alone barked for hours on end. Finally police and animal control came just after the owners for the first time put their dogs inside due to possible rain and when shopping so all they saw was two dogs inside and a friend to say it was a one off total BS.

Getting There
From I-70, take the Silverthorne exit 205. Travel east on Highway 6,
approximately 4 mi to Swan Mountain Road. Turn right and travel for 2 mi to Prospector and Windy Point Campground sign. Take dirt road 1 mi to campground entrance.

Access to Prospector Campground is via I-70, with the Silverthorne exit 205 leading to Highway 6, which is approximately 4 miles from the campground.

General
- Please Note: One RV with tow per single site or one vehicle per tent site. Most sites can accommodate 1 extra vehicle that is not included with the reservation fee. Extra vehicle will be charged a per night fee and collected at the campground.
- Body contact with reservoir prohibited; no swimming, water skiing, jetskiing, or scuba diving in the lake
- Prevent the spread of invasive species by inspecting and cleaning packs, equipment, and tires before using lake or trails
- Reserved Sites will be held until check out time (ELEVEN) the day following your arrival date. Sites must be occupied by the checkout time of that following day to hold a reservation or the site will be forfeited and released to other guests.Once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation.
- Fire Restrictions: Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed.
- Don't Move Firewood: Prevent the spread of tree-killing organisms by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. For more information visit dontmovefirewood.org.
- Any accepted senior passes must be entered for the discount at the time of booking for single sites only.

- Campers must occupy the site the first night at a campsite. This prevents booking the site for Fri-Sun and showing up on Saturday.
- Campers may leave the site for 24 hours and must occupy the site otherwise. This allows a camper to say go for an overnight backpack trip in the woods for one night and come back to their campsite the next day.
- It is imperative that you are clear from the site at 11:00am on your check out day so the host can come prepare the site for the next event. Please don't be the group that makes the incoming group have to wait.
