Our favorite campground, in spite of the 2 mile road from hell to get there. No campground hosts for the first time, but our camper was safe while we were at the Seafood festival.

Very quiet and secluded campground! Only 10 sites. Our site had lake view. Will definitely return.

Beautiful rural campground with some electric/water sites and primitive sites. The current camp hosts in October 2021 are not maintaining sites well and they are full of fire ant mounds! Was also here in April 2021 and camp sites were in great shape, but lake was closed to swimming. It is ridiculous the lake is still "closed" to swimming due to alligators. They really need wildlife officials or locals to remove the "problem" gators so people can fully enjoy this lovely lake. It's normal for lakes in FL to have gators. If gators are a problem they need to fix the problem! Don't count on cell phone coverage at Camel Lake and enjoy being unconnected to your phone.

Camp host….. Bill Powers was excellent. Bill went out of his way to make our stay fantastic. He offered information on hiking trails. He greeted us immediately upon arriving in camp… personally took us to our campsite… offered to help in anyway possible. His demeanor was excellent……often stopping by to chat with myself and all other campers. When not supporting camp patrons Bill was busy with campground upkeep. The forest was flooded from hurricane Ida…. So we were limited in accessing everything…. Bill made our stay memorable.

We reserved three nights here, but we only stayed one night. At about one o'clock in the morning, I saw flashlights moving very close to our tent. Then I saw the camp host riding around on the golf cart with the lights on. In the morning, the camp hosts came by and explained what was going on. Turns out that people like to have parties in the woods nearby. Then they come into the campground to use the bathroom or shower. They park on the road and cut through on trails by the campsites. If I was camping by myself, I wouldn't have liked that, but I would have dealt with it. But I was camping with a child, and I didn't feel it was safe. So we left.
Other than that, it's a pretty nice campground. Note that the website says there is water, but our site did not have a spigot. There was a spigot at the site next door, though. The bathroom and shower were very clean and nice to use. The camp hosts were very a very nice Christian couple. The lake is awesome.

We had a wonderful visit at Camel Lake Campground in Apalachicola NF. It's a beautiful campground with a really pretty lake and swimming area. My husband fished in his kayak twice and didn't see any evidence of anything but catfish and mudfish. That was disappointing.
The camp host (I believe her name is Wendy) was wonderful, helpful, and friendly. She kept the bathrooms spotless! We'd definitely go back but next time, we'll go when it's cooler!
