Monument Lake Campground

Nice campsite, but make sure you arrive in daylight, as it is very difficult to find your way around where the different campsites are in the dark. There is only a little light at one toilet building and the other is in complete darkness.

Seeing milkway in Florida is dream becoming true. Fantastic place! Restroom is very clean. The camp site is small and quiet at night. Bug is the only problem even in November. I brought thermacell with me, wearing long sleeves and pants, but bugs were fierce even at midnight. My neighbors had a lot of fun outside, It seemed they had bug spray and made big fire in fire pit . There was
a satellite tower nearby, so cellphone had very strong signal. The one suggestion I would bring up to the preserve is pls dimming the restroom outside light. I was tent camper, I had to go to rv site to do stargazing.

The campground is amazing, my kids loved it, and surprisingly my wife did too! The campground is beautiful and is also amazing for fishing for bass, gar, etc. The mosquitoes won’t be a problem as long as you bring a ThermaCell or repellent. Solid 9/10 from my family!

The campground wasn't in good shape, the grass was overgrown, bathrooms not that clean, looks like an abandoned place, almost returned back home but since I was there... needs a serious TLC!

Lovely little spot.

The setting of the campground is beautiful and each site is well maintained and spacious. I had a strong internet/cell reception thanks to a nearby tower. I preselected a spot next to the vault toilets only to arrive and find out that they were closed. The other bathroom was on the opposite side of the lake, and that morning lost electricity so all the people were coming from the other side of the lake to the closed toilets by my campsite. So aside from the toilet situation I would give this a high rating.

Came for the stars as Monument Lake is listed as being in one of the darkest places in the US, it did not disappoint, somewhat close to living in the boonies as a kid. Kind of annoying tho there is a distinct glow off east from Miami. Bugs were not that bad, used spray and wrist bracelets. Very inexpensive campground, but of course there was no electric, water or sewer in the campground. There was a free water intake and sewer dump for campers in one of the nearby campgrounds. The staff was very friendly and volunteered much local information. Saw several alligators, turtles, lots of birds etc. Never saw a snake or bear, but they are supposed to be around in the area. Overall I got what I came for, and may camp there again, but earlier in the year as the weather was starting to get hot.

We enjoyed our stay at Monument Lake. The hosts were very pleasant and helpful. Sure would like to see electric at the campsites! Love that they now have a shower!
