What Guests Are Saying
Petersburg Campground is a beautiful and well-maintained site with spacious, clean campsites and friendly staff, making it a peaceful place to enjoy nature. Many visitors appreciate the gorgeous scenery, access to the lake, and the opportunity to see wildlife like armadillos and woodpeckers. Although there are some lingering effects from Hurricane Helene, including tree damage and a need for improvements in certain facilities, overall feedback suggests a positive camping experience.

We had a good week at Petersburg. Pretty swim area and our campsite #14 was overlooking one of the fingers of the lake. Nicely shaded and easy to fish from the bank. The Bartram Trail was very nice for hiking and mountain biking, and we did a 5 mile round trip hike one morning, and I later rode my bike 20 miles round trip from the campground to the Dam. The free laundry was a very short walk from our site. It was nice to get a week’s worth of laundry done before get-a-way day.

My visit was for one night only and I enjoyed it so much that I stayed another night. Most of my activites involved walking my dog throughout the campsite , getting some much needed exercise as well. Mostly though , scouting for sites that I would be interested in for the next visit. The camp receptionist at the checkin gate was very nice and helpful. So were the caretakers as well. The grounds were imaculate. My only wish is for the sites to be paved. I can only imagine what they would be like in the rainy season and you are there. Some sites were paved , If I remember correctly 22-26 but then they are not large enough for some vehicles. I was in a minivan so I could have gone on all sites. Some sites are cojoined , sort of, and at the same time some are really private. My first site was 53, very private, and the following day, site 47 , just accross the street and not so private , nevertheless a great site as you are next to the "sea Wall". One site that stood out to me ( there were many) and can take a large vehicle, is site 34. It is next to the fishing pier. Bathrooms were well kept . This place gets dark at night!! Luckily the second night had a full moon. I enjoyed my stay and will definitely return. I highly recommend this camground . I visited Ridge Road as I was in the area and much preferred Petersburgh.

We love camping at Petersburg Campground. Most of the sites are situated where you can’t even see your neighbors. Core of engineers are the best campgrounds because they really take such good care of them. Petersburg is not far from Evan’s, Ga. where you can find anything you need. Walmart, Lowe’s, and many restaurants. Of course Augusta is just down the road from there with its beautiful river walk alongside the Savannah River. You will really enjoy your trip.

Campsite 22 is a great spot. The drive way was paved and level and close to the water. The cell phone reception was almost nonexistent. Campground hosts were awesome!

Our site was not cleaned. Fish hooks and trash on the ground. I understand that the Park maybe short handed.
However, there were serious violations being overlooked. Friends of ours that were camping in a different loop were attached by unleashed dogs. They were jumping in her face and circling her while she held her leashed dog.
I understand there was another incident by these same campers and their dogs. Also, there were two unleaded dogs swimming with their owner at the public beach by the picnic shed. These dogs were well behaved but again the issue was not addressed. We personally encounter two trucks racing through the park. The came at my husband and I as we were riding our bikes on the correct side. These people were at a site that we were told occupied by homeless people... still all rules should apply to all campers. I hope these issues will be addressed.

Petersburg is a favorite of ours, and site #60 did not disappoint. Beautiful view, trees for the hammock, and a goose family to watch daily provided a very relaxing experience. Will definitely be camping here again.
