What Guests Are Saying
Petersburg Campground features friendly staff and well-maintained, clean facilities, making it a pleasant place to stay. Many campers appreciate the spacious, diverse sites and beautiful views, despite ongoing recovery from Hurricane Helene, which has affected some amenities and scenery. While there are some drawbacks, such as restroom accessibility and low lake water levels, the overall experience remains positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

Huge sites in a gorgeous park. The lake is good for boating, kayaking, fishing, all of it. Our site overlooked the lake and we could walk down to it. Peaceful, quiet. Well worth the trip.

Site 19: great site! Easy access to the water, so bring your float or kayak. Very spacious site. Friendly staff. Clean bathhouse. Definitely going back!

We have been camping at this campground for over 30 years and this last trip in April of 2024 was very disappointing. There was a lot of trash not being picked up by the hosts. The campsites had not been cleaned off and ready for incoming campers and were not being cleaned off while we were there for a week! No one was at the office until the day before we left and we ourselves never checked in at the office. The campground was just very different. It was like it had been let go, not cared for and left to run down! The campground is in dire need of gravel in MANY campsites and limbs and trash need to be cleaned up. Our campsite (number 4) had a huge pond right under our awning for most of our visit because when it rained the water had nowhere to run so it all settled right under our awning. Needless to say it was nasty and our shoes stayed nasty. We had to move our rug elsewhere because it was swimming and would not dry out. This campsite definitely needs some work done to help with the draining issues! We were very disappointed with Petersburg Campground on this camping trip! We hope is gets the attention it needs to get back up to par like it has been in the past!

Beautiful Campground. Bathrooms could use an update. Could also use a few more throughout the park. Only one loop was open the others were all closed. I believe they were closed for updating. I could hear them felling trees. The men with us said the pressure and heat in the showers was great. The women said only the handicapped one was good in our loop (A). I used our shower in our camper. It had good pressure. We were on site 25 & 23. They were very nice sites with water & electric. Right on the water. We would stay here again.

Very nice campground near Evans/Augusta, GA. We camped in site 5 with a 27’ travel trailer in a very large site with a 50 Amp hook up and water. Access to the campground is via good, paved roads. Cell phone coverage was ok with Verizon – 16 mb download/3.5mb upload. 16 channels of OTA TV with ABC and Fox as the only primes. Our site (#5) was a fine gravel, reasonably level, huge, private, and right on the lake with easy access for our 27-foot trailer. This site was next to the swimming beach and pavilion, so privacy might not be great during the summer. Not much activity there in March. The other sites varied in size, but generally large with privacy (some have steep entry and exit, so choose carefully). There was 1 restroom nearby (uphill hike) with a free washer and dryer. There were no doors on the showers (plastic curtains only), so leave your valuables at the RV. These were older facilities that could stand to be updated, but they were clean and had good hot water. There are 2 dump stations with reasonable access. The one closest to the ranger station has a tight turn to exit, but the 2nd one is good. This campground served as our base for exploring the area. The scenery here at the park was great – right on the lake. There is occasional noise from boats during the weekend, but it is very quiet at night. We had grounding errors on both the 50-amp and 30-amp connections. The host was very helpful in getting a repair technician and everything was resolved (loose connections). We had a 50% discount with the Federal Golden Age Pass.
