What Guests Are Saying
Petersburg Campground is a beautiful and well-maintained site with spacious, clean campsites and friendly staff, making it a peaceful place to enjoy nature. Many visitors appreciate the gorgeous scenery, access to the lake, and the opportunity to see wildlife like armadillos and woodpeckers. Although there are some lingering effects from Hurricane Helene, including tree damage and a need for improvements in certain facilities, overall feedback suggests a positive camping experience.

The campsites were clean. Restrooms are clean but old and unkept. Call the visitor center to get info about which sites will accommodate your rig. Many are downhill and treacherous. Go across the dam and explore the visitor center. Watch the movie on how the dam was built. Augusta is a beautiful city. Boll Weevils has great food and even better desserts. Walk off your meal on the river walk, right behind the restaurant. Go see Congaree National Park. Make lots of memories.

Nice clean sites. Alot of pull through sites. Bathrooms are not temp controlled and the door stuck leaving it open all day and night so lots of bugs. The roads are nicely paved. The park is very quiet after dark. However some of the roads and one way and NOT clearly marked. We came out of bathhouse and went wrong way. Got yelled at by a worker . Slinging his arms telling us to back up and leave. We couldn't back up. We had to go forward to turn around . He mumbled loudly that the signs are clearly marked .When I said obviously they weren't clear as we missed the "sign" he demanded our camp number. When I told him no, he said that's fine I have your tag number and whipped out his phone. My husband sat there so he could get his picture of our tag. It was embarrassing as the golf cart employer guy involved a bystander as well. The man was rude and obviously hates his job. We did everything we could to avoid him for the rest of our trip. Did have one nice worker in a truck our first morning though. He was checking sites after campers leave and inquired about our stay in a very friendly polite manner. Check in took a while as the they said they were new and volunteering. With the one exception of the man on the golf cart we had some really nice downtime.

This is the first poor experience that I have had staying at COE campgrounds. Site 12A. The site numbers are very hard to find. Poor design and has been allowed to deteriorate. By the looks of it, no one has used this site in some time; locals know not to choose it. Rain and a constant leaking water spigot have eroded it so much that it was impossible to get the camper level. No attendant on duty when I arrived, and when I phoned the number the next day, I learned that no attendant was on duty at all on Wednesday and half days otherwise. I do think the park looks lovely and peaceful. I might have driven around to find a different site, but I chose to leave.

Our visit to Petersburg was okay. We’ve been to this park many times and the Attendant was very friendly at the gate. But our site was filthy. Cigarette butts on table and trash in the fire pit. There was also no soap in the bathrooms. Also the site next to us kept parking their boat and blocking our site. We had to ask them to move their vehicle in order to leave on Sunday

Spacious, shaded and all lake view sites.
Very private, friendly stuff and clean. The only setback was the extremely limited T-Mobile cell phone service.

We absolutely loved this campground!! Plenty of sites of all sizes! Most sites have a great view of the lake. Easy to dump on the way out.
Quiet and peaceful. Bathrooms/showers were clean. People were friendly. Lake was pretty clear and clean!

Site #15 is perfect. We love #12-15. Easy access to water, ideal for boats, kids and great views. Even if water is down its still nice. Great cove, quiet. Across from bathhouse and not far from playground/beach area. (#15 needs a new picnic table, but all good)

Our reserved site had a tree that was questionable, so they moved us to a better site. Great campground, very friendly staff. Would recommend.
