What Guests Are Saying
Petersburg Campground features friendly staff and well-maintained, clean facilities, making it a pleasant place to stay. Many campers appreciate the spacious, diverse sites and beautiful views, despite ongoing recovery from Hurricane Helene, which has affected some amenities and scenery. While there are some drawbacks, such as restroom accessibility and low lake water levels, the overall experience remains positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

One of the best campgrounds we have stayed. Hosts and other employees are friendly and helpful. We will keep returning because there are numerous quality sites. There is a very nice fishing pier as well as boat ramp. We always enjoy walking the shoreline or roads, the Bartram trail is also very nice.

I was surprised to see so few campers at the campground. But really enjoyed the camping privacy.

Very nice campground. Most campsites offer privacy, others offer stunning lake views. We visited in the fall, when occupancy was down. We enjoyed the quietness. We were leaving early saturday morning and that was the most noise we heard during our stay, was all the boats going by to claim their fishing spot! We will be back!

The campsites were clean. Restrooms are clean but old and unkept. Call the visitor center to get info about which sites will accommodate your rig. Many are downhill and treacherous. Go across the dam and explore the visitor center. Watch the movie on how the dam was built. Augusta is a beautiful city. Boll Weevils has great food and even better desserts. Walk off your meal on the river walk, right behind the restaurant. Go see Congaree National Park. Make lots of memories.

Nice clean sites. Alot of pull through sites. Bathrooms are not temp controlled and the door stuck leaving it open all day and night so lots of bugs. The roads are nicely paved. The park is very quiet after dark. However some of the roads and one way and NOT clearly marked. We came out of bathhouse and went wrong way. Got yelled at by a worker . Slinging his arms telling us to back up and leave. We couldn't back up. We had to go forward to turn around . He mumbled loudly that the signs are clearly marked .When I said obviously they weren't clear as we missed the "sign" he demanded our camp number. When I told him no, he said that's fine I have your tag number and whipped out his phone. My husband sat there so he could get his picture of our tag. It was embarrassing as the golf cart employer guy involved a bystander as well. The man was rude and obviously hates his job. We did everything we could to avoid him for the rest of our trip. Did have one nice worker in a truck our first morning though. He was checking sites after campers leave and inquired about our stay in a very friendly polite manner. Check in took a while as the they said they were new and volunteering. With the one exception of the man on the golf cart we had some really nice downtime.

This is the first poor experience that I have had staying at COE campgrounds. Site 12A. The site numbers are very hard to find. Poor design and has been allowed to deteriorate. By the looks of it, no one has used this site in some time; locals know not to choose it. Rain and a constant leaking water spigot have eroded it so much that it was impossible to get the camper level. No attendant on duty when I arrived, and when I phoned the number the next day, I learned that no attendant was on duty at all on Wednesday and half days otherwise. I do think the park looks lovely and peaceful. I might have driven around to find a different site, but I chose to leave.
