About Desoto Falls Recreation Area

Desoto Falls Recreation Area is a U.S. Forest Service Campground located approximately 2 hours North of Atlanta in the North Georgia mountains of the Chattahoochee National Forest.  Desoto Falls offers visitors year-round recreation opportunities including camping, fishing, picnicking, and beautiful hikes to our nearby waterfalls. North Georgia is a playground for wildlife watchers. An abundance of Deer, Turkey, Bear and, small furbearers can be seen as well as bird watching. If you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, come to Desoto Falls.

Really enjoyed my time ad DeSoto Falls and it totally met my expectations. It's a no-frills campsite with shared water and only a pit toilet on the upper loop. The lower loop does have flushing toilets with sink and outdoor shower but no hot water that I could tell. I didn't feel crowed in the campsite and I felt there was enough room between sites, but it was open and I could very easily see fellow campers without obstructions. The trees provided ample shade which would be most welcome in the summer months. Trails to both waterfalls were well maintained and provided an enjoyable hike. I didn't have cell service with Verizon.

Enjoyed our visit to Desota Falls. This is one of my favorite places to camp. Hike to both falls was nice. Camp hosts were friendly and helpful. I had trouble operating the shower they helped but shower needs some repair to turn on and off.

The camp area was clean and beautiful. However, the site is nestled in a valley beside the main highway which means almost constant traffic noise.

Couldn't ask for a better weekend for a camping trip. Campsite was clean and ready to go. The campground is well maintained and watched over. If I have to find any fault in the place, it would have to be that the bathroom lights no longer work. Probably just need the batteries replaced.

Easy check in, very pretty area. Access to bathroom. Larger fire pit would be great but that's a minor complaint.

Brenda, the camp hostess, was awesome! The site was clean and convenient to the trailhead which was an easy hike to a beautiful waterfall. Definitely recommend.

We had beautiful weather and the campsite was great (Site 18-B) during our stay February 9-11, 2022. The Sheriff Deputy came by the campsite and we had a nice conversation. A great guy! Also, we spoke with the campground hosts, who recognized us from previous stays. A nice couple. A beautiful tree-filled campground. Hiked to the lower falls which was spectacular. It was a great stay.

Short hikes to the falls. Clean campsites. Overall great experience! I did see some post about the restrooms. My observations were very different. The ones I visited were very very clean but it was also the dead of winter.
