This is my 2nd visit in 2 years. Great location with lots of space between sites, level sites and maintained well. However, there is practically NO INTERNET ACCESS unless you have satellite. I can handle spotty service this was much worse.

Beautiful and spacious campground. So much to do and see in the area, but a favorite was watching bald eagles fish the Des Moines River. Wish I would have brought my bike for all the cool trails. Welcoming and very helpful staff.

Great place to camp. Pella is close so if you need supplies, it is not far to get them. The campground is great. Bike trails and hiking. Right on the river. Huge sites.

Howell Station was an excellent location and very well managed. We enjoyed the spacious layout and location on the river. There was a lot of wildlife activity and being right on the bike trail was great. Sites were spacious and it was quiet even when almost full. We came for the Pella Tulip Festival which was a lot of fun and showed great community spirit. Would do it again !

We were only able to book for one night and had to wait for another day cancellation in order to secure the second night.
We were pleasantly surprised that the emails kept coming with available sites and were able to eventually get one. That is a great feature to have so that sites don't go unused. Both sites were very nice. We loved the view, the walking paths, and the sites were spacious. Beautiful campground.

Policies & Rules
Arrival & departure
- Reservations are required before occupying a site.
- Check-in is at 3:00 PM and check-out is at 2:00 PM.
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
Fees & deposits
- The fee booth is open daily with specific hours for weekdays and weekends.
Fires & fuel
- Firewood is available in limited supply; it's recommended to bring your own.
Site capacity
- Campsites allow one wheeled unit and two tents or three tents, with a maximum of eight people.
Vehicles & parking
- No parking or driving on the grass, except for boat trailers.
- Golf carts, UTVs, and ATVs are not allowed.
Safety & rules
- Water-based play equipment such as kiddie pools and slip-and-slides are not allowed.
- Inflatable play equipment like bounce houses are not allowed.
