Houchin Ferry Campground

The place was awesome! By far deserves 5 stars. Close enough to society to get things you need but far enough away to feel isolated. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was or experience was next to college kids that did not follow the quote rule after 10. Me and my wife were hoping for some peace and we did not. If you are reading this review the place is worth renting. However get spot 8, 9 or 10 (best spots to rent)

decent campground, no complaints. When I made my reservation, Hochlin was the only 1 that had openings. But when I arrived at MCNP, the main campground had plenty of openings, even though online it had showed no vacancies on my date. I would have preferred staying at the main campground.

The campground is not worth the $20 they charge a night. Too many locals driving in and out. The concrete picnic tables need to be cleaned.

I love this campsite since it is small and simple. And also it is only 10 minutes away from town which it make me feel more safer. I know there is portable toilets which is fine with me but watch out for spiders and other bugs in there. And also I am surprised of how close the campsite are to each other. But it wasn't too bad. I would definitely come back here again in the future with my family. It is nice and quiet. Love it.

The campground is absolutely beautiful. The disappointments are that there is no firewood to purchase, no cold water shower, no Wi-Fi at all and the campsites are concrete, you are not able to stake your tents to keep it in place.

it is very clean, quiet, beautiful. the only thing we didn’t like was how close the sires were to each other. overall great experience!

Beautiful spot. We'd never been to the area and I reserved this with only reading reviews and looking at online images. The site was clean, quiet and perfect for camping with 4 kids. The entrance isn't gated at all, and for the 3 nights we were there no one from the park service came by to check reservations (that I know of). But everyone was kind and honored the reservations as far as I know. Access to the river was a steep bank, so we didn't spend much time at the water. Drive to the cave was about 20min. There is a big gas station and nice little grocery store 10min from the camp sites. We would definitely consider camping here again if we come through the area.

The camp was clean and well taken care of. No complaints there. This was my first time at the site. I was expecting at least 1 trail from the campsite, but there wasn't. Also I didn't like how I had to leave the park into Brownsville and drive around just to find a trail to walk. Houchins ferry felt more like a city campground and not like a federal national park

It was so bad that we only stayed at our campsite for 3 hours and left. The campground had not been maintained in a while. The grass and brush were very overgrown and you could not even see the river for the overgrowth. It looked nothing like the picts on the website. There were old, discarded tires, wheels, and junk on our lot.. very sketchy looking. We love dogs. Even brought our dog with us, but another camper's dog kept coming over to our lot and jumping up on our tent. The owner would not put a leash on the dog and just let it roam around the campground. He'd yell at it from time to time, but that's it. As we were in the process of packing back up our tent, I almost put my hand down on a snake. It had been laying at the entrance of our tent and we had not even noticed it due to the high grass. We will stick with the Maple Springs and other Mammoth Cave campsites from now on.
