Houchin Ferry Campground

We stayed over Father’s Day weekend, 2022, and booked sites 4 and 5. That turned out to be the best decision because the first several sites are very close together. If we go back, we’d try to book site #8 as it is heavily shaded and has a small path at the back of the site that leads directly to the river and has the best views of the water. It’s a high traffic campground as many kayaking tour groups finish at the old ferry stop. The drive back to the campground is very hilly, but a great workout if you’re walking, running, or biking. As an added bonus, the employees at the nearby convenience store/gas station were very friendly!

The sites were very close together, we could hear the campers next to us snoring and had a hard time sleeping. Nice and shady area with ample parking.

Beautiful place for my first time camping in years as a solo female traveler. Safe, gorgeous especially with the fireflies at night; the woods were practically glittering. Plenty of places to hammock and an easy entrance to the creek if you wanted to kayak or something. Relatively clean outhouses and potable water.

I've been going to houchins ferry campground for many years. The boat ramp has been neglected for too long. It is a very popular kayak and canoe recovery point and for those who don't have the convenience of a second vehicle it is both a launch and recovery point. The ramp has become very steep and is almost completely blocked by a mound of dirt.

Clean, quiet. I will say the sites are pretty close together and there was no tent pad it seemed. We threw our tents in the grass where we saw fit. All in all though, it was good. Fire wood scarce. I chopped down an old dead tree back in the woods and was fortunate enough to be camping with some boys that helped me drag it back. I'd come back.

Nice area on the river. Campsites are closer together than i thought but not too close. Be prepared to drive at least 15 minutes to anything. It was 20 minutes from the visitor center but its a easy drive! The water pump was very easy to use and the water came out cold! The area itself was very nice and relaxing and quiet. Lots of trees so lots of shade everywhere. Would return agian!

The campsite and facilities were clean. Rangers drove thru daily. Nice spot on river; kids enjoyed fishing. 15-20 minute drive to Mammoth Cave visitors center. Wish the sites were a bit larger, but otherwise great tent campsite.

This was a nice quiet campground for us tent campers. Our neighbors were quiet and in bed early, and it was a beautiful spot.

Perfect little place by the river.

The tent camping was like a group camp out with too small sites.
