About Maple Springs

At Maple Springs, visitors can enjoy the serenity of the campground and surrounding backcountry trails, or spend their days exploring Mammoth Cave. Campers can explore up to ten miles of the cave through a variety of tours available at the Visitor Center. With more than 400 miles (644 km) of mapped passageways, Mammoth Cave ranks as the world's longest known cave system. Mammoth Cave is named for its grand size and scale. Visit the Rotunda for an idea of just how large this underground world is. The World Heritage Site was explored by Native Americans more than 2,000 years ago, and Europeans discovered its existence at the turn of the 19th century.

What Guests Are Saying

Maple Springs Campground offers a peaceful, spacious, and secluded experience with great hiking trails nearby. The campground is clean and well-maintained, but lacks showers and dump stations, which may be inconvenient for some visitors. While access to the main park area via ferry can be limited, the overall tranquility and beauty of the site make it a worthwhile destination for nature lovers.

Other than the grass being a little higher than we imagined (and bugs we've never seen before), our site was good. We will definitely book the same one in the future. The only other negatives were the toilet had an odor and gnats swarming (we will fix this in the future with additional "toilets" of our own) and the people at the site next to ours. We brought two dogs which were well behaved and leashed/confined according to the rules of the campground. One outside dog and one inside dog. Every time we would leave and while we slept, they would come to our site and let the outside dog off his leash. He does not bark and is a gentle giant puppy. We know it was them because there was a point where we were other only 2 sites occupied and it happened. They would run around on our site and in the woods behind us when they thought we were asleep, very rudely. They never said anything to us, but they definitely impacted our trip. We did talk amongst ourselves about how the dog was "escaping" but he must have thumbs due to the nature of the escape on our second to last day and the next morning when we woke, the dog was still tied up. That did not stop them from playing loudly in the woods behind us and running along our site when they thought we were asleep. I will admit, I never saw smaller children but they may have had a teen or two. At any rate the behavior was atrociously disrespectful and is not something one should have to deal with on any getaway. It's not hard to stay in one's own rented space. Other than those few things and lack of anyone checking on the grounds or stopping by to check reservations/welcome people, it was great.

The information about check in was very confusing. Just a simple statement of your reservation was your check in would work. It was a great campground.

Great campsite with plenty of room. Definitely fits the term group site so great for a full family. Only think I would keep in mind is camper trailers likely won’t fit on the mammoth cave ferry so this site is a bit of a longer loop around to get to but it’s worth it.

the ferry was a huge inconvenience, when I scheduled the event we had the ferry was on a regular schedule. It would have been nice to receive a notice on it hourly changes. We had a lot of people that were coming at night and were expecting the ferry but had to drive around the park. The camp ground we were at was very neat and clean and well cut. Maple Springs campground as whole was very well kept. The wood blocks burn ok but would prefer real wood. We rummaged around and found plenty of dry wood in the forest. We saw plenty of wildlife and had a great time on the river. It was good to see law enforcement patrolling and checking things out. They were very friendly and knowledgeable and seemed eager to answer questions. The park staff was very friendly and helpful as well. We will be back in the fall.

This was a great campground. Very quiet, with spaced out camp spots that were really private. There was lots of branches and logs around to collect for fires. There was not a shower house nearby. The septic toilets were clean. It was fun to go across the ferry to get to the visitor's center. The roads in the park are brand new. Nice hiking and biking trail access nearby.

Camp site was spacious with water at the site. The pit toilet was directly across from the campsite. The area offered access to lots of great trails. Our group enjoyed our trip on the ferry across the Green River.

The directions around the park to get to the campsite due to not being able to use the ferry added an unnecessary 1.5 hours to our drive time when there was a more direct path coming from the north. I wish we had mapped it ourselves rather than relying on the booking directions. Campsites were really nice and large. Very spaced out. It would be nice if there was a dumping station added to this side of the park as the only one in the whole park is located on the other side of the river which would involve moving the trailer and driving over an hour. We ended up stopping at on the way back home which cost additional funds. $50 a night is a little more on the expensive end as most other RV parks charge that price with all of the amenities.

Camping experience was fine but not up to par with what we usually experience for $50 per night. Although minor because traffic is non existent, sight #4 is angled the wrong way for an rv or camper to back in. No problem, I just turned around on the main road and went the wrong way on the camping loop to back in as every other campground in the nation angles their camp sites. Second issue was our water faucet was buried 18" too shallow and seemingly wasn't frost proof anyways because most mornings it was froze up. Not a huge issue because it would thaw out an hour or two after sunrise and we weren't hooked directly to water anyways. These faucets probably aren't a good choice for the campground as a few sites from us a faucet was leaking all day and we couldn't get it to stop. This group camping/equestrian loop has water and electric. If I'm not mistaken, the main campground by the visitor center only has water.
Otherwise, quiet spot during thanksgiving and great mountain biking, hiking. If you want to do a cave tour book early, it's worth it.

The campsite has some significant dips in the cleared area for our vehicle and camping. These dips or big holes collected water and mud that made getting in and out of our camper unpleasant.
