What Guests Are Saying
Maple Springs Campground offers a peaceful, spacious, and secluded experience with great hiking trails nearby. The campground is clean and well-maintained, but lacks showers and dump stations, which may be inconvenient for some visitors. While access to the main park area via ferry can be limited, the overall tranquility and beauty of the site make it a worthwhile destination for nature lovers.

The area was very nice but not having a dump station near by without having to travel the 50 minutes back to the other side of the park due to not being able to cross the ferry in the RV was the only down side. Otherwise the area was well maintained. Also, you have to enter the side of the camping area marked “do not enter” otherwise you wouldn’t be able to back into the site.

I love mammoth cave. The staff is amazing. And I want to give this trip a good review how ever the camp site was way below standard.
When we arrived there was a large mound of construction sand. The picnic tables had all been removed, which was important to us because I am pregnant and cooking and preparing food for our kids is difficult enough without having to makeshift surfaces. But not only were they removed they weren't removed completely so there were big slabs of concrete with exposed bolts in them as well as a hole ( I assume that's what the sand was for but it hadn't been filled)
Which again with kids it wasn't very comfortable having to worry about them tripping in the hole and smacking their head on the cement or worse with those bolts.
We had booked for four days but only stayed the one night then left. Which again was disappointing because I love this park so much and have visited many times.
I do recommend Mammoth cave. I will absolutely try staying in the campgrounds again. How ever this trip was a big disappointment.

Each site had plenty of space and our kids were able to run around. Nice trails to walk and cycle. Picturesque and quiet.

We loved the solitude of Maple Springs and the vault toilets weren't even that bad. The coyotes at night were a special treat!

This is a small, quiet campground close to Maple Springs Trailhead. I camped in my horse trailer and brought one horse. All of the other campers were non-equestrian, but the kids all had good sense, were well-behaved and kept a safe distance from my horse. Dogs were kept on their leashes and for the most part they were well-behaved too. All of the campers were super nice people.
Water and Electric hook-ups are very close to the trailer, so you won't have to use long water hoses or long extension cords. Trailer sits on a paved pad that's reasonably level left to right, but I disconnected the trailer from my truck to level it front-to-back. The paved sites are facing the wrong direction but if you go in through the exit (enter the wrong way) you'll be able to back in just fine.
There are no stalls or corrals for horses and combined with the distance from the trailer I wasn't totally comfortable with the horse's safety overnight by himself tied to a picket line. I got up twice during the night to check on him since he was alone, the only horse in the whole campground. Fortunately he seemed okay with that and was content and quiet during the night.
High-line posts provided for horses are very stout and are high enough for horses to walk under the picket line. The horse areas are pretty far from the campsite, you won't be able to keep your horse close to your trailer. You'll need a 50' long picket line because the posts are far apart. If you're short like me you will need a stepladder to reach the holes in the top of to the posts to thread your picket line through and pull it tight. If you have more than one horse, they all have to be tethered to the same picket line.
There are no showers or flush toilets. The pit toilets were decent.
There is no place to dump grey or black water tanks at this campground.

Since the bridge was closed we had no place to dump our waste tanks. Please consider installing a dump station at Maple Springs so people can empty their tanks.

Stayed several times and will go back. The sites have plenty of space. Backing in is a challenge, but the drive is paved for the wrong direction. When arriving we drive down the wrong way so we can have more asphalt to back in on because of this. Not sure why they did that originally. The site has been great, although one problem exist and it's happened to us before. Since other campers use the site for their horses, they do not follow the rules and their horses leave their waste near the site. They are supposed to tie their horses up near the tree line. Instead, it appears they were tied to the trailer and laid their waste on the site. For those of us that don't have horses and just campers, guess what we have to smell and worry about stepping in? This is one problem we have noticed with the site and it appears it's not enforced. It's a great camp site beyond these complaints and can be very quiet. It's worth trying out.
