Assateague National Seashore is a one of a kind experience, especially on the mid Atlantic coast. Our site wasn't exactly on the beach, but we could see the water and listen to the waves... went for an excellent stargazing walk at night and watched the sunrise over the ocean in the morning, without really seeing any other people. Outdoor bathrooms were kept clean, cold showers were cold but good. Excellent time.

The campground was nice, the sites were well spaced but the mosquitoes were thick. The weather was also over cast or raining during our 2 night stay. Iβm glad we came to see it and notch it off my list but I probably will not come back for another visit.

Tent camping at this site was fantastic. Falling asleep to the ocean waves was amazing. Just make sure you have dry firewood BEFORE you get to the site.

My husband and I took our two boys to Assateague to camp ocean side. We didnβt know what to expect and were new to the adventure, and my goodness did it not disappoint! We brought two tents and some food for the night. We bought firewood from one of the local spots. The ocean was oddly warm, so both our boys swam in the ocean. We got to see the Milky Way and shooting stars! It was a spectacular 24 hours. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we immediately booked another overnight for November. Itβll be chilly! But that means more snuggling by the fire!
I was looking to get our kids to unplug from online life, see nature and just exist and this trip was perfect for our entire family. A βhard restartβ for the human brain.

They're not kidding about the biting insects! As long as you're well coated in bug spray, this place is wonderful. The facilities are well maintained and the campsites are a generous size while maintaining a bit of privacy.

Well maintained campsites, easy to navigate signage/roadways, and great wildlife made this a great first-time overnight camping excursion. I will say that the ponies can be a nuisance. The expectation to "give them space" when they enter one's campsite during a meal so they can rummage without any significant 'consequence' is someday not going to end well. Other than that, we found the staff/cadre well-informed and the facilities well maintained. Plenty of information online regarding current conditions--we'll definitely come again.
