Thanks to the NPS for all that they do, despite the shutdown the campgrounds and facilities were open and clean. You all are awesome, don’t let anyone else try to tell you otherwise!!

I have stayed at this park a number of times (always in Loop B Bayside) and love that these sites are a good distance apart, affording privacy. Ponies were in the parking lot right next to the entrance to the park - at least 10 of them! Got great pics!

This is a fantastic place especially with wild horses wandering all over. There are so many wonderful things to do such as walk the 30 mile long beach, walk the wonderful board walks built for viewing arears, paddle the bay, or go to the ocean. We have visited 4 years in a row, the first 4 years ago after I read an article about Assateague and told my husband we were going there right now which was December.

We love visiting Assateague to camp. It’s beautiful and very clean. We feel that for being a natural area it is well kept, and the natural areas are respected by everyone. The hosts were very nice.

We stayed at site 17 in ocean loop one. The site was okay. The table and firepit were a pretty good distance from where you park your car. Normally that wouldn’t be an issue bc you are closer in the dunes and away from the road but we use a truck tent so it was just annoying for us to tie the dogs that far away while we packed. The biggest thing I think that affected our stay is that this site backs up to the group camping site and whoever was there had a group of like 10 kids from probably 11-5 years old. They did not watch them whatsoever. Their kids constantly came in our camp and harassed our dogs. We asked them multiple times to stop because our dogs would be barking (taunted by the kids barking at them). We also had a horse in our camp which was a pleasant surprise. Except the unmonitored kids, hid behind the bush it was eating and jumped out and yelled at it. Within touching distance. I lost it and explained how dangerous that is in not the kindest tone. Everything else was okay. The govt shutdown made it so we were unable to check in but also free to get in. When we arrived, someone was in our spot. I think they were just scoping it out hoping no one would show up. It was beautiful weekend. I just wish parents would watch their kids around wild animals and make sure they aren’t wandering into other camps and harassing their pets. We will be back, but we will choose our site a little better (:

Assateague’s campgrounds were wind-swept and some sites under water this past week. Fortunately, we changed our reservation on-line to avoid too much of both conditions; but it wound up costing us $10/ day to do that when we did.

nice level camp sites, good 5G, and horses everywhere. This also means that there is horse manure everywhere. During the shut down it may not have been picked up for a week or two
