Magical! One of the best experiences I've had on my eastern seaboard trip.

We were pleasantly surprised that the park was open for reservations during the shutdown, so we booked 2 nights as we were traveling toward home. The park was surprisingly full and pretty clean, except for the piles of horse excrement.

Campsite was well maintained with space comfortably for one 4 person tent. Keep in mind that toilets are pit-style and there is no running water. There appeared to be a shower, but did not look like a good option. Enjoyed being near the beach, and saw ponies on the campgrounds.

Great stay at the national Seashore - bayside camping area!
Sites were well spaced and while us and others ran our generators at times it was still a very good experience with the quiet nights and dark skies to see the stars!! Dump station was easy to access at the end of our stay as well as some potable water as well - stayed in our 5th wheel. Missed the opportunity to buy some swag as the with the shut down the ranger station was closed but not to worry we will be back next season!!! Thank you for a great property!!

Our late October visit was well timed with very few people on the beach, nice day and night temperatures, and an amazing night sky.

Be aware that after rainfall or during humid seasons some camping sites and the access paths located behind the dunes are flooded by water gathering/surfacing in the lower terrain. If not covered by pools of water, the sand is very wet and not practical/comfortable for camping.

We visited during the shutdown. It was a bit confusing to find the national side of the camping area and we tried the state park office first. They were kind and gave us a map to find the correct camping area. The beach is beautiful and horses walked through in the morning. Definitely do not leave food or drinks outside unattended. The surf is rough and there is a drop-off just beyond the beach. Not a beach for Littles to play in the waves. We saw several adults wearing life vests while enjoying the beach and they stayed out of the water entirely. Lots of unleashed dogs! Perhaps folks were taking advantage of less personnel during shutdown. Bring your bikes because there are plenty of level paved areas. Mind the wild horses and give them space! Most of them just graze past but there was one larger horse that seemed agitated, was neighing alot and running about the camp area. If he charged, it isn't easy to get away. Overall I loved Assateague!

Great weather last week.
Horses everywhere, seca deer singing, mockingbird serenade daily. Ocean beach walks, bayside sunset.
Sun festival in Ocean City was awesome.
Great friends, campfires, a fantastic time!
A favorite spot for us!
