What Guests Are Saying
McCoy's Ferry Campground is praised for its beautiful riverfront location, well-maintained facilities, and peaceful atmosphere, making it ideal for camping, fishing, and biking along the C&O Canal towpath. Many visitors appreciate the cleanliness of the portajohns and the spaciousness of the campsites. However, some guests noted noise from passing trains and occasional issues with cleanliness upon arrival, but overall, it remains a favored spot for repeat campers.

A very pleasant surprise. Secluded, with the Potomac River on one side and the C&O Canal trail on the other. Enjoyed the locomotives passing. Not buggy for mid-July.

Attractive setting, my site was nice. The canal was pretty - a few fishing boats floated by now and then.
Notes: No host, and I don't think the gate was locked at night. A few vehicles driving through late at night. Sites are fairly close to each other with no privacy. Water pump didn't have a handle; not sure if you just weren't supposed to use it or if it was missing, but you definitely need your own water.

Riverside camp spots have a lot of overgrowth on the riverside bank. There is no access to the river from your camping spot. Nice small campground, well pump water, and A LOT of port-a-potty's.... too many.. whichever direction the wind blows, there is a waft of port-a-potty smell throughout.
Boat ramp access in the park for river use. Was an ok spot for a night stay along a multi-day trip. Maybe try again towards winter. If it is really hot, I would not want to be around all those toilets...

This lovely, quiet campground on the Potomac is absolutely perfect for an out-of-the-way location. At night the owls are quite active with their midnight serenades. It’s great for walks or bike rides along the C&O Canal, and firewood is available at the Clear Spring gas stations 10 minutes away if not available nearby. Check out Dam 5 for fishing and Greenbrier State Park for swimming.
