The sites are large, fairly private & close to the water which is perfect for kayaks/canoes & casting a line. They also have a fishing peir & boat launch. If you're tenting beware; the gravel pad is as hard as cement!! I could not pound stakes in to it to secure our mat, even with a hammer!! You are not allowed to set anything up on the grass, this includes our screen tent. 😠 Our neighbors were forced to take theirs down & it was very buggie once the wind died down!! 🤨 They checked out early. The host said that they (FFS "Brenda") are trying to grow the grass, although there is no sign of grass seed or fertilizer. It's a nice thought but, come on, it's a campsite in the midst of a forrest not a park that gets lots of sunshine to help the grass grow!!
This is a rustic campground with pit toilets, water, a few electric sites plus a sanitation station. The hosts take very good care of the campground & the toilets are very clean. We love it but you should be able to utilize your entire site!! I am wondering if this rule is a FFS rule or a personal one. ??

Camping at Colwell Lake is always fun. Sites are clean when we arrived and the bugs weren't too bad. Bathrooms are kept clean. We'll be back.

We love camping at this campground! The sites are very nice and kept clean. The bathrooms are c!eaned and checked daily. The walking trail is definitely a bonus! The camp hosts, Carol and Jerry Heston, were amazing! They did a wonderful job. They are both very friendly, made you welcome, checked on every campsite and made your camping adventure truly memorable. We would like to see a few more electric sites available. As you get older, it is harder to deal with a generator. Our only complaint is that the road into the campground is terrible.Would love to see it fixed.

Arrival & departure

  • Reserved sites must be occupied by checkout time (NOON) the day after arrival, or they will be forfeited.

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
