What Guests Are Saying
Ausable River Camping offers a beautiful and serene environment, with spacious, well-maintained sites and picturesque views of the river. Campers appreciate the remote, rustic charm and the opportunities for fishing and hiking. While there are some concerns regarding ticks, road conditions, noise from generators, and occasional issues with campsite bookings, many visitors still express a strong desire to return for another experience in nature.

Campsite 037C was clearly well-tended by staff, though the previous campers left trash in the fire ring, which I packed out when I left. The location itself is beautiful, with wild columbine and ninebark blooming all over the island when I was there, attracting many bees, butterflies, even hummingbirds. Store your food safely each night, as there are some crafty raccoons around.

Site divided right down the middle by large trees that were cut down and not clear away. It made setup a bit trickier and the site more awkward to use.

There is a steep hill to access the river but if you follow the trail to the west it will lead you to a lower landing to unload your boats.

This beautiful space was worth paddling in all of our supplies for 8 days of secluded nature time with the family. The swimming, fishing and exploring were wonderful.

Need to improve access to the river. The bank could use some steps to help people reach the water.

Everything was great other than waiting for the prior people to clear out of the campsite

First things first where DNR has it marked is not its location that is 29c. Second that incline up to the site is no joke. Now that being said we had an awesome time and the view was awesome.

By far my favorite river in Michigan for kayaking and camping.
