What Guests Are Saying
Ausable River Camping offers a beautiful and serene environment, with spacious, well-maintained sites and picturesque views of the river. Campers appreciate the remote, rustic charm and the opportunities for fishing and hiking. While there are some concerns regarding ticks, road conditions, noise from generators, and occasional issues with campsite bookings, many visitors still express a strong desire to return for another experience in nature.

It was a pretty terrible experience. Another reviewer had already mentioned the fire ring being next to another campsite, which it was. I didn’t even have a fire the 2 nights I stayed there. I actually parked my truck to block the other site. That didn’t keep the occupants of the site letting their dog into my site whenever I left. I’d come back from fishing and there was a dog barking at me, every time. The lady came a couple times to get the dog and her eyes were super dialated on a sunny day. She was definitely on something not legal. There was a loud generator running all the time. No view of the lake. The worst part was listening to people fighting and no way of contacting law enforcement since there isn’t any cell service. There was a physical altercation at 7:30am followed by at least 45 minutes of F bombs and mother f’er. It didn’t seem that close but sound travels across the lake. Glad I didn’t bring the kids on this one. One other thing, the slope down to the lake is steep and there is a spring towards the bottom keeping it muddy and slippery all the time. Even without the disrespectful idiots, still the worst site in the area.

Amazing site right on the water. Saw a family of deer playing in the river.

Perfect weather, and fantastic campsite! Only complaint is that the stairs down to the water are in need of repair, they've been getting progressively worse every year and I think it is time for some new posts.

My boyfriend and I loved this spot. We had more than enough room for everything we brought. As first time tent campers, we couldn't have asked for a better site! We weren't bothered by animals, and we had a little climb down to the water, obviously not a beach but could be fun for water access in the right weather! The fire ring had a little grill for cooking over the fire, which was super helpful! There's also a little path directly from 52 to the close bathroom. We were far enough from our neighbors on both sides, although site 51 is a little closer than preferred. Nothing crazy, but could get bothersome with the wrong neighbors! The main road down to the boat launch can be a little busy (we stayed on a holiday weekend, so that's expected) & is difficult to squeeze 2 lane traffic so be aware of that depending on the rig you're hauling! Phone service is here is really bad, but the drive to Oscoda isn't much if you need to use your phone. Other wise, site 52 is a beautiful break from the busy every day life!! We will definitely be back.

This is a wonderful place to camp. Quiet and beautiful. A lot of work to get down to the river. The fire pit was clean, and the campsite was clean. Being a primitive site, there's only a fire pit ... No table, no potable water, no toilets. I would camp here again because I love having privacy and being away from everything

Beautiful secluded site with great view and access to the river. Wake up every morning with only the sound of the river flowing by. We'll be back!
