Au Sable, Cooke Dam, 59W. Beautiful spot overlooking the pond. Quite and peaceful. Short distance from the parking area. There are trails that will take you to the individual sites so you’re not walking right through someone’s camp. Although, we did have some folks come through that were there just for a walk. I would recommend this spot to anyone.
Verizon Wireless, intermittent service. No data, 15 min drive out to Westgate Scenic Overlook for data service (needed to do some homework) . I would get random notifications.

Great location. The marker for 48D is hidden below a tree so hard to find in the dark. The turn out is the last right when you see the parking for the boat launch.

The Au Sable river dispersed sites were amazing! We camped in mid-October and the colors and stars were beautiful. The power boat traffic was minimal and everyone we encountered was very kind and considerate. The Lumberman Monument Visitor Center and nearby Monument campgrounds were very nice. We can't wait to visit again soon!

Great waterway for canoe or kayak exploring. Many great hiking trails close by. The monuments are nicely maintained and worth seeing.

Our huge campsite, 002D, had one of the most beautiful views of any campsite where we've ever stayed. We sat by the river watching the wildlife (including deer, a bald eagle, several types of ducks and geese, swans, and woodpeckers, among others) and enjoying the gorgeous fall scenery. The site was very quiet during the day. At night we heard coyotes and owls. I'd easily rate the view as 5-star. Unfortunately, previous occupants had left quite a bit of trash on the campsite and covered the nearby underbrush with toilet tissue and lots of evidence of human waste, including a waste bucket! Be aware that there is some poison ivy on the periphery of the site, but at this time of the year it's colorful and easy to spot. The road to our campsite was a bit dicey for our Prius; even though we drove very slowly and carefully, we scraped the bottom of our heavily loaded car on a rock when we arrived at the site but were able to negotiate the ruts and rocks after that.
