What Guests Are Saying
Lake Michigan at St. Ignace offers a beautiful camping experience with stunning beach access and well-maintained facilities. Campers appreciate the friendly hosts and clean restrooms, along with spectacular sunset views. However, the proximity to a busy highway results in significant road noise, which can detract from the overall enjoyment, especially for tent campers.

Private, peaceful and right on Lake Michigan. Sites are large and meticulously maintained. When we arrived, ours was freshly raked. The vault toilets were exceptionally clean. Our site was up about 5 steps up from the parking pad area and then it was about 40 yards on our private trail to the dune over looking the beach. (we did get cell service when were were up here, but not down at our site. ) From there it was only 10 steps down in the sand to the beach. We have camped at 10 different camp grounds on or near the water in Michigan and this is a favorite. Yes, you can hear the traffic, but you can also hear the waves. There are only about 30 sites and they were not all full. We barely saw people. It was like having our own private beach and overlook.
Different people want different things in a campsite. If you want a large, private site, right next to Lake Michigan that is clean and you don't need a camp store, running water, or mind the traffic sounds, this is the place for you.
You are 20 mins from St. Ignace, an hour 10 mins, from Tahquamenon Falls, and 2 hours from Manistique.

Bring your own hand sanitizer as the provided one leaves some to be desired. Beach has become a little rocky. Lovely restaurants and attractions in St. Ignace. Campground is just a short drive from many natural wonders (Tahquamenon, kitchi- it-tipi and Mackinac Island are just a few). Been camping here for 42 years. The place is just awesome.

IT was a fabulous time. We arrived, the camp hosts were wonderful, helpful people. The only complain I have is the mosquitos hahaha

This was only a one night stop for us on the way to Marquette but we will definitely be back. The sites are large and laid out well and the park is stocked with firewood and ice. The staff were friendly and helpful. A short walk through the woods brings you to the most beautiful Lake Michigan beach and an amazing sunset view.

This is my favorite campground of all time! The beach access sites are amazing. I especially love the privacy and serenity of the campground.

Hard rain and dense fog, swarms of mosquitoes for our entire stay.
Under better conditions it would be nice to have a Lakefront site.
We did have good T Mobile cell service.

The site was large and easy to get into. Just a short walk to the beach, but dogs are not allowed on the beach.

We planned this trip specifically to camp on Lake Michigan, and didn’t realize this camp site was right on US 2. Half of the sites are more towards the water, and it’s possible the sound of the road wasn’t as bad as it was at the sites closest to the road. After a couple of days the cars finally started to sounded like white noise, but it was difficult sleeping as the truck traffic and noise was very intense starting at about 5 A.M.. Walking over to the beach was amazing though, and once you walked through the tree line the noise of the road was gone. So if you are going to be exploring a lot and spending your time on the beach this may not be a bad place to go, but we were really trying to camp at the Wilderness sites, which are on Lake Michigan but on the lower peninsula side. That is a totally remote area, with no traffic. I’d say the best part of this site was coverage from the wind; Wilderness can get very windy as there is no coverage to protect you from the wind coming off of the lake.
The mushroom hunting was wonderful, and exploring the UP is such an experience. There was almost no one staying at this camp ground, and you cannot see any of the other campers. The toilets were very clean. We couldn’t hear any generators coming from campers. Some sites have very minimal parking, and most sites are walk-up, so being in a camper may mean setting up away from the campfire ring. The campfire ring was actually a good design, and we were able to cook all of our meals on it.
We will probably never stay at this site again, but it’s worth checking out once. This camp ground needs better description of sites, although people may not go here if they did. It’s also very difficult to determine where the sites are located, as far as closer to the road or the beach. Camping is always a blast in this beautiful state of ours.
