The Ford cabin was an ideal base for a 3 day stay in late November 2024. Our stay coincided with a significant snow accumulation. We enjoyed excellent x-country skiing and wildlife observations. The cabin met our every need. A bushy tailed wood rat was eliminated during our stay. Look for the rat trap inside a cabinet drawer. There was absolutely no sign of any critters within the cabin. Bait the trap with cheese, deploy it out on the deck, and visitors will sleep peacefully without the scurrying clatter of "rats in the rafters" (See the handful of previous public reviews, some humorous, that document packrat headaches) The Ford Cabin is a gem. Get out there and enjoy the experience.

Ford cabin was clean and stocked with all the basics which was appreciated. The propane heater was nearly impossible to figure out (someone turned off the pilot light) which made for a cold night when it got into the 30s. We had warm clothes and sleeping bags so the temp wasn’t the problem. The problem was the packrats that come out at night. Earplugs highly recommended or you will be doomed to hear the scurrying all night long and get no sleep. Evidence of rats seen in the morning on the porch. Lots of droppings! It is a remote cabin surrounded by beauty, that’s for sure. Go to Polebridge for pastries and coffee in the morning if you don’t get any sleep!

Had high hopes for this cabin but.
The road and rafters access made for a busy loud experience.If you are looking for privacy and solitude with wildlife try somewhere else!
However the cabin itself was very nice.

Excellent place to stay. Cabin was well stocked with everything from cooking and cleaning supplies to games and books. Extremely well taken care of, and a great time all around. The two gas lights are dim, so bring a reading light for night time. Absolutely. beautiful location all around, well worth the visit, even in the winter.

Getting There
From Columbia Falls, travel north on Nucleus Avenue until the road ends at the intersection of Railroad Street. Turn right (east) on Railroad Street. Continue on Railroad Street; it becomes the North Fork Road. Continue north on the North Fork Roa...
From Columbia Falls, travel north on Nucleus Avenue until the road ends at the intersection of Railroad Street. Turn right (east) on Railroad Street. Continue on Railroad Street; it becomes the North Fork Road. Continue north on the North Fork Road for 45 mi. Turn right on Road 308 just north of the Tepee Creek crossing. Follow Road 308 back across Tepee Creek to Ford Cabin.
North Fork Road is gravel and rough in spots. It is only intermittently plowed during the winter months, requiring four-wheel drive or chains for travel.

General
- There is a maximum stay of three consecutive nights with a total of seven days per calendar year.
- Electricity and sewer are not available at the cabin
- Drinking water (hand pump) is available from April 1st to November 30th.
- Tents, RVs, and campers are not allowed on premises.
- Bears frequent the area; use appropriate containers for food and garbage.
- Pets and livestock are not allowed at the cabin.
- Please bring garbage bags; this is a 'pack-it-in, pack-it-out' facility.
- Please help conserve propane by minimizing use of lights, and keeping the thermostat set at 55 degrees when away from the cabin.
- Contact the ranger district office at (406) 387-3800, during normal office hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) for updates on weather and road conditions; refunds will not be given for inclement weather or road conditions.
- The cabin remains locked; a combination lock code will be contained in the reservation confirmation letter.
- Guests must clean cabin prior to departure; a fee will be charged if extra clean-up is needed.
- Commercial use of the cabin is prohibited.

- This is a remote cabin that may be unoccupied for extended periods of time. Mice may be present in cabin - there are supplies to trap mice and remove safely in cabin. Please do your part to help mitigate rodents by picking up food crumbs, cleaning thoroughly, and trapping mice if they are present.
