About Ford Cabin

Ford Cabin offers a cozy, rustic getaway along the appropriately named Wild and Scenic North Fork of the Flathead River. It is about 45 miles north of Columbia Falls, in northwestern Montana. Visitors enjoy a variety of recreational activities, including fishing, viewing wildlife and exploring the area's many trails. The cabin is available from May 22 to March 31. It can be access by vehicle, however four-wheel drive and chains are recommended during the winter. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities. The majority of the road from Columbia Falls to Ford Cabin is gravel, so be prepared for dust during your drive and at the cabin.

What Guests Are Saying

The Ford Cabin is a charming and well-equipped retreat, ideally situated near scenic river views and perfect for activities like cross-country skiing. Guests appreciate its cleanliness, basic amenities, and the overall positive experience, despite some noise from packrats at night. While some challenges exist, such as the difficulty in making reservations and managing the heater, many would happily return for another stay.

Had a great stay at the Ford Cabin! Having the water pump was nice (disabled 11/30). Thank you to all who leave the cabin clean and orderly. Having an outdoor fire was awesome so bring some firewood. The views from the river were beautiful.

We enjoyed 2 nights at the Ford Cabin in early November and had a very memorable time! It was quite chilly outside, but the propane heater kept us toasty. The fire we built felt great after exploring the western part of the Park and the North Fork river area. Plan to bring fire starter & a good saw, as there was no kindling or firewood readily available. Also, bring S&P and any spices you may need...none of that was available there. A good warm sleeping bag and extra blankets are a must also. We didn't realize that the Merc was closed for the season, so no Huckleberry Bear Claws until next year--dang! Enjoy your stay--it was great!

Our stay at the cabin was terrific. The cabin is small but perfect for two people. There is no cell service which makes it exceptional and the location is amazing. Be sure to hike to Hornet Lookout if you stay here, a must see.

Ford in the winter is lovely- go for a quick jump in the river and come back to a cozy little cabin to play board games and make dinner at. Don't forget to clean up after yourselves and bring your own firewood for the outdoor fire pit!! If you are traveling in the winter, you might want to bring tire chains. We were stuck for an hour near Polebridge for some jackknifed trucks and trailers on the icy roads. We likely wouldn't have made it to the cabin without our tire chains (rain on ice).

Such a peaceful old cabin to stay in. It's like stepping back in time. The proximity to the river is great. It's also nice to have a creek behind the cabin when the water (outdoor pump) is off for winter.

Nice cabin in a good location. Only downside was the strong smell of propane even though all pilot lights were lit. Needs to be checked out.
