Excellent location and all the amenities needed. The only complaint is mattresses and cushion on the futon, really needs updated.

I appreciate the paved road all the way there. The cabin was great along with location and we did run into a grizzly on the property along with setting off truck alarm one night! Be bear aware

We love Upper Ford. This was our third visit in five years. Twice in the spring and once in the autumn. The autumn trip was nice because we got to wade in the river right by the cabin. The spring trips are nice for hikes, drives, and cozy evenings playing cards in the cabin.

Great cabin. We enjoyed our time there despite initial disappointment of it being just a few feet off a paved road. We are used to the FS cabins being more remote, but it was quiet and we only had a one person stop. Nice to have the Yaak River right there. We enjoyed being able to hear it and see it, just wish there was better access to it. Mattresses are firm - really need box springs to fit the frames - so, typical of these cabins. You might want to bring an air pad and/or your own cot.
The fridge and stove worked great in the huge kitchen. It's very well stocked and having an indoor sink with a working drain was an unexpected delight. The propane lanterns all worked well. Mosquitos were present but not horrible. I was more concerned at the wasp next on the outhouse roof overhang as some of my party are highly allergic. We were impressed with how clean the cabin was upon arrival.

Wonderful nice historical cabin! Bring everything you need even mattress protectors and TP. The mosquitoes were BAD in the cabin, not too bad outside.

Thermostat still doesn't work after 2 years. No replacement mantels so bring some. Perfect other than that.

From Troy, Montana, take US Highway 2 west for 9.5 mi to Yaak Highway 508. Follow Yaak Highway 508 for 30 mi north to the town of Yaak. Follow Yaak 92 approximately 7 mi to the junction with Upper Ford Road 8025, stay to the right. The cabin is approximately 300 yards from this junction and is located on the right-hand side of the road.
Highway access
The property is accessible via US Highway 2, approximately 9.5 miles from Troy, Montana, and Yaak Highway 508, which leads north to the town of Yaak.

General
- The cabin is secured with a combination lock; please call the the Ranger District at (406) 295-4693 prior to arrival to confirm the combination
- Horses are not allowed in the cabin area. Please use the corrals provided. Certified weed-free hay is required
- There is no water; guests must provide their own for drinking, cooking and washing
- Pets are allowed, but no pets on the furniture
- Please pack out all trash and food and clean cabin before departure
- There is a 5 consecutive day stay limit. A break of 7 days is requested before making another reservation.
- Be aware, this facility is not cleaned between user visits. It is up to individual renters to bring their own cleaning supplies and clean before and after site use.
