About Many Glacier Campground

The Many Glacier Campground is located on the east side of Glacier National Park, at an elevation of approximately 4.5 ft. The campground is located about 22 mi from the town of St. Mary and the east entrance to Glacier National Park. Babb, Montana, is the closest community to the Many Glacier Campground and is located approximately 12 mi east of the campground. Babb has a general store, gas station, several restaurants and an U.S. Post Office. Cell phone coverage is not available in the campground. However, limited coverage is available in Babb. All sites require a reservation. Most sites have a 6-month booking window with a good handful having a 4-day booking window. We stayed four nights in A4 with a 27 ft travel trailer. The site has a relative amount of privacy, with a few trees on the street side and about 20 ft of forest on the camp side (between the campsite and the road). The driveway has a moderate curve with a couple of trees and a few rocks and other obstructions low to the ground. It was wide enough for us to navigate the travel trailer into the site, with just a bit of time and care. The proximity to the restrooms with a sink for dish water dumping was convenient. The campground was well maintained and though full it was relatively quiet and relaxing. The best thing about the Many Glacier campground is the ability to walk to a range of amazing hikes and vistas. The dump station on the main road was convenient for filling water upon arrival and dumping upon exit. There is absolutely no cell reception in the area, though the Swiftcurrent Motor Inn allowed non-guests to sit in the lobby and use their wifi. The Glacier Conservancy was also testing out offering 30 minutes per day at the ranger station this year. These options were helpful to stay in touch with loved ones!

Quiet, fairly secluded campsites with plenty of room for camper and car as described. Clean wash house. Lots of trailheads leave from the campground so didn't have to use the car much! Host helpful. Great experience!

The last 3 mi of potholed, washboard rutted road is awful. Especially after any rain at all. The NPS should be ashamed of themselves.

I was told the road can’t be paved because the ground is unstable. I call BS. I live in California and if the soil engineers can stabilize Hwy 1 in Big Sur after a landslide somebody can figure out that flat stretch of road. PLUS, there’s a paved parking area and toilet half way through. Amazing.

The campground itself and all the nearby trailheads are fantastic, but the rivets nearly came off my trailer on the trip out. Something needs to be done.

I thought the campground and location were amazing. My only issue is the reservation system to book these sites. I was at Many Glacier Campground for 4 nights in 4 different sites because I couldn’t book them consecutively …even sitting at the computer on each day of the 6th month rolling reservation system. I had to wait for cancellations and quickly reserve. Otherwise the campground is amazing

Policies & Rules

General

  • Make Sure You Book the Correct Campsite! You are responsible for reading the site alerts and booking a site that will accommodate your equipment. Most campsites and driveways are very small and will not accommodate towed units over 21 feet (6.4 m). A limited number of sites can accommodate towed units 26 to 30 feet (8 to 9 m). Many campsites will not accommodate camper 'slide-outs'. If you must use slide-outs, please make a reservation at St. Mary Campground, located 22 miles (35 km) from Many Glacier and 1/2 mile (.8 km) along the Going-to-the-Sun Road.
  • Entrance Fees. The park entrance fee is $35 per vehicle and $20 for hiker or bicyclist. The entrance fee is valid for seven days (and may be purchased upon arrival or in advance). The park honors Interagency annual and lifetime passes. 
  • Food Storage and Wildlife. Grizzly and black bears frequent the area. Food storage regulations are strictly enforced. When not in immediate use, all food, beverages, coolers, cooking and eating utensils, toiletries, pet food, or other attractants must be kept in a closed, hard-sided vehicle or secured in bear resistant lockers located throughout the campground.
  • Rules and Regulations. It is the camper's responsibility to be aware of all Glacier National Park Campground Rules and Regulations
  • Maximum Stay. Camping is limited to 14 days between July 1 and Labor Day, and 30 days between Labor Day and June 30.
  • No Hookups. There are no electric, water or sewer hookups at individual campsites. Shared water spigots are located throughout the campground. One dump station is conveniently located at the entrance to the campground.
  • Generator free sites are # 48 - 59, 71, and # 86- 102. Other sites allow generator use only during the hours of , , and .
  • No Phone or Cell Connectivity. There is no public phone or cell phone coverage in or near Many Glacier Campground. The closest phone service is 12 miles (19 km) east in the town of Babb, MT.
  • Maximum Number of Tents. Campsites allow a maximum of 2 tents per site.
  • Hammocks. Hammocks must be hung over non vegetated areas using one inch straps or wider. Vegetation may not be trampled to access hammocks.
  • Renting an RV or trailer? Per 36 CFR 5.3, commercial business may not take place inside Glacier National Park. This includes RVs and trailers being delivered within Glacier's boundaries. Renters of these must drive them in themselves.
