About Cochiti Campground

Cochiti Recreation Area is located in Sandoval County, New Mexico, within the boundaries of the Pueblo de Cochiti Indian Reservation. The lake offers two public recreation areas: Cochiti on the west side of the lake and Tetilla Peak on the east side. Both sides offer spectacular scenic views of the water and surrounding mountains. The Cochiti Dam is one of the ten largest earth-fill dams in the United States, and also one of the largest in the world. The lake derives its name from the Indian Pueblo on the Cochiti Reservation.

Pulling a 34 ft 5th wheel. Very easy to get to from I25, very easy to move around in the park. Sites are huge. The lake was beautiful. Easy drive to Santa Fe.
Cannot rate the restrooms or showers as we did not use them. Highly recommend this campground.

Our reserved site was occupied by another camper when we arrived. The spot next to our reserved site was empty so we took that one. No one from the park came to check on reservations so I wonder how many campers actually paid. Facilities were very clean as was the entire campground. Very quiet at night. A few loud vehicles in early morning when it appeared folks were leaving for work. Overall a very favorable impression. Enjoyed the covers over the picnic tables.

Spent two nights in the Ringtail Cat section of the campground. The sight had a nice, level concrete pad with a covered picnic bench area. While there were no hookups there, there were two community water spigots to fill up water. Dump station was near by and easy access. The sight had a nice view of Lake Cochiti and was super quite and tranquil. Location is about 12 miles off I-40 between Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

Very well kept campground. I did not use the showers but I checked and there was a handicap shower with a bench and handheld shower, which is what I prefer to use. I had water and electric so did not use those facilities much. The sites were all clean and well kept. No trash left by previous campers. There was a beach area on the lake away from others. It was kind of off season so my pups were able to get exercise chasing sticks. Very nice host the one time I met them at the gatehouse. Very convenient for visiting Santa Fe or Albuquerque, easy to get to the highway.

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee.
