A nice park with potential but with one fatal flaw that kills it. We spent 5 days at Cochiti Lake in a travel trailer. The sites in the electric/water loop are nicely laid out and properly spaced. There is a nice view of the lake. There is a campground host but that person is off duty Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. On those days, I guess, the park runs on auto-pilot. During the 5 days spent at Cochiti Lake I did not see anyone that I could identify as a ranger or authority in charge.
Now for the fatal flaw, the bathrooms are filthy. The floors, the toilets, and the showers are not fit for humans, I have pictures. My wife took a spray bottle of a bleach solution to clean her shower floor and shower before she would use that facility. Once in the 5 days a vehicle showed up and 2 people entered the building to clean. They were in and out in less than 10 minutes. I was a work camper and cleaned shower/bathroom buildings many times. In my experience, it should have taken one and a half hours to properly clean both sides of that facility.
In a telephone call, I expressed these sentiments to a park ranger. He blamed the problem on the “contractor”. Sorry that doesn’t fly. The people charged with running the park (the park rangers) are responsible to ensure the cleanliness of the facility. If they have chosen to hire a “contractor” to do the work, they are still responsible to check that the job is being properly accomplished.
What a shame, a nice park, it could be much nicer.

Showers were very clean. Site in Juniper loop was very tight for a small RV (24’). Although spaces were spaced fairly far apart. Mosquitos were not bad at all in that higher loop away from lake. Access to running potable water was difficult however. It would be an improvement to have a faucet that is easily accessible similar to dump station in order to fill up tanks. Breakfast burrito at golf course was tasty and reasonably priced

Website is not very user friendly. We canceled our reservation and have yet to receive our $10 credit.
