About Tetilla Peak

Tetilla Peak Recreation Area is located in Sandoval County, New Mexico, within the boundaries of the Pueblo de Cochiti Indian Reservation. The lake offers two public recreation areas: Cochiti on the west side of the lake and Tetilla Peak on the east side. Both sides offer spectacular scenic views of the water and surrounding mountains. The Cochiti Dam is one of the ten largest earth-fill dams in the United States, and also one of the largest in the world. The lake derives its name from the Indian Pueblo on the Cochiti Reservation.

What Guests Are Saying

Tetilla Peak offers stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere at an affordable price, especially for America the Beautiful pass holders. While the campground is poorly maintained, with issues like limited water access, potholes, and cleanliness, the attentive site manager and beautiful surroundings compensate for some shortcomings. Visitors appreciate the tranquility and scenic sunsets, though the lack of privacy and amenities may detract for some campers.

The family and I really enjoyed this spot. Easy access to swimming and boat launch. The road didn't seem as bad as others who posted made it out to be or they've done some repairs. Nice views and quite. We will be going again.

Campground has an open layout with just a few small trees but overall pleasant. There were only a very few other campers there during our stay in late July so the close sites were not a problem for us. A very quite area several miles from other activity though still relatively close to Santa Fe for day trips. The booking site and descriptions say there are showers available but the showers look like they had been closed for some time and the maintenance man did not know when they would be opened again. Otherwise the restrooms were very clean and well maintained. No showers were a big disappointment as that is the primary reason we chose this campground.

Close enough to visit Santa Fe but remote enough to enjoy the expanse of New Mexico.

Park is down a road that is a little rough but if you go slow it is worth the drive. Just south of Santa Fe with large sites and ok shower house. Showers need new shower heads but plenty of hot water & was clean when we were there. Park was not very full when we were there in September 2019. Price for Seniors with Golden Age Pass is very good. Found the lady park host to be very courteous & helpful with our questions.

Beautiful location. Quiet. The road up to the campground has some large potholes that you'll want to avoid (this was Oct 2019). IMPORTANT: Before you select a campsite, be sure to inspect it for GOATHEADS. We stepped out of our rig and our shoes, tires, and dog's paws were immediately covered with them. If you're there earlier in the season and recognize the plant, please do everyone a favor and pull them up and throw them away. Not all sites have them, but these things spread like mad and are a real pita. Just don't let them stop you from enjoying this sweet campground. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribulus_terrestris
