About Tetilla Peak

Tetilla Peak Recreation Area is located in Sandoval County, New Mexico, within the boundaries of the Pueblo de Cochiti Indian Reservation. The lake offers two public recreation areas: Cochiti on the west side of the lake and Tetilla Peak on the east side. Both sides offer spectacular scenic views of the water and surrounding mountains. The Cochiti Dam is one of the ten largest earth-fill dams in the United States, and also one of the largest in the world. The lake derives its name from the Indian Pueblo on the Cochiti Reservation.

Park is down a road that is a little rough but if you go slow it is worth the drive. Just south of Santa Fe with large sites and ok shower house. Showers need new shower heads but plenty of hot water & was clean when we were there. Park was not very full when we were there in September 2019. Price for Seniors with Golden Age Pass is very good. Found the lady park host to be very courteous & helpful with our questions.

Beautiful location. Quiet. The road up to the campground has some large potholes that you'll want to avoid (this was Oct 2019). IMPORTANT: Before you select a campsite, be sure to inspect it for GOATHEADS. We stepped out of our rig and our shoes, tires, and dog's paws were immediately covered with them. If you're there earlier in the season and recognize the plant, please do everyone a favor and pull them up and throw them away. Not all sites have them, but these things spread like mad and are a real pita. Just don't let them stop you from enjoying this sweet campground. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribulus_terrestris

Spacious sites. Sun shelters are metal. Being up on a Mesa means gorgeous views but can be hot, breezy, windy, cold, wet, stormy, or ‘perfect’. Just depends on time of year. This location is well established and it has been in existence for awhile. Expect adequate amenities but ‘not new, not perfect’. Shhh don’t tell to many people about this diamond in the rough.

We live only 30 minutes away, but enjoy going over for a few days just to get out of the house for a while. We have camped there for many years. I'm sorry to say that the camp ground and main road in are going to serious disrepair. The road into the camp ground looks like a remnant of WWII. I have been given a reason for the lack of maintenance, and I understand. It would be sad to not be able to use T.P. and enjoy the Cottonwoods and lake any longer.
Thank you, Michael Kluck

I love the campgrounds I think it’s prettier then the other side. I like the lookout a lot. The road going out needs work there are a lot of really bad pot holes in the asphalt. There were four camping spots covered in goat heads. That need to be cleaned up really bad before they overrun other ones. Besides that just really an awesome place.
