What Guests Are Saying

Black Canyon Campground is praised for its cleanliness, well-maintained facilities, and beautiful surroundings, making it a favored spot for campers. The spacious sites, friendly camp hosts, and proximity to hiking trails and Santa Fe enhance the overall experience. However, the lack of water has been a consistent issue, and some visitors have reported problems with caterpillar infestations and site accessibility.

The campground was very clean and well kept . It was very quiet at night . The campsites are very well spaced out so your neighbors aren’t very close . The hiking trail that leads right out of the park was beautiful . Only complaint I have is our camp site was right across from a bathroom and we could smell it all night long . Next time we will get a site farther away . Definitely will visit again

Campsite was a great size and beautiful area. Bathroom was close to #12 and enjoyed the convenience but not the smell. Firewood was easy to by in town at Whole Foods. Next time we would stay longer.

Very nice forest service campground not far from Santa Fe. The sites are large with plenty of privacy. Not sure why no potable water was available - so bring water with you. Only negative is no phone service but they do have a public phone if needed.

We had a great time camping with two RVs at Site 23 in July of 2021. This campground is small and fairly quiet, and the friendly hosts keep the vault toilets and dumpsters in good shape. My only warning is that you do not bring bigger rigs into this tiny park. The roads are twisty, and the USFS has put concrete wheel blocks into the sites so you cannot use every inch of the site. We saw several larger Class A's and Fifth Wheelers try and fail to get parked.

Also, you are boondocking here with no electricity and no water. Don't count on your solar panels because the trees are tall and you will be in shadow most of the days even when it's sunny. If you need to run a CPAP at night, you may need to charge up your battery pack with a generator before "quiet time" (which is 10 pm in this park).

We love this campground. The host, this summer of 2021 is a very nice host. Having a great host make us feel comfortable during our stay. There are many hiking trails very close to the campground. The Black Canyon head trail, starts right on the campground and it is a nice and sweet trail. We just enjoy leaving the city and enjoy nature for a weekend.

Beautiful campground nestled in a pine grove. Water would have been nice but still very lovely.

One of the nicest, cleanest, well-maintained National Forest campgrounds we have used. Kudos to the hosts! A little misunderstanding about not occupying our site the first night but the host handled it without confrontation & we truly appreciated her understanding. We loved the area & so much cooler than Santa Fe.
