What Guests Are Saying

Black Canyon Campground is praised for its cleanliness, well-maintained facilities, and beautiful surroundings, making it a favored spot for campers. The spacious sites, friendly camp hosts, and proximity to hiking trails and Santa Fe enhance the overall experience. However, the lack of water has been a consistent issue, and some visitors have reported problems with caterpillar infestations and site accessibility.

What a great location. Depending on what you are using to camp, this could be great or you might want to skip it altogether. There is NO water, anywhere! You'll need to stop at the Fire Dept. at the bottom of the mountain. There is NO Electricity. The dump station on the highway is STATE, whereas Black Canyon is FEDERAL and the state wants you to pay to dump There are no pull thrus and most of the sites are either short or VERY short. There are a lot of tent campers there so it's really pretty quite without generators or kids.
We try to go up each summer with our little trailer and use the campgrounds as a base to visit Santa Fe or the area. You'll need to do more homework on this but If you don't need the power or water you will like the layout and landscaping of the campground, and really enjoy being 20 minutes from Santa Fe.

The location of the campsite, the scenery, the relative privacy of individual campgrounds, and the presence of a camp host are are all good. However, the past two seasons there has been no water in the campground, why I don't know. There was no explanation and I have not seen this deficit publicized. . Since there are just the two of us camping, my wife and I, we can bring our water in with us, but campers who are used to a potable water source on-site should reconsider camping at Black forest, or bring their own water.

I could not pick up any mobile signal, necessitating going into town to work. FYI. This is not a concern for most people BUT you will garner more visitors if you have great cell signal... plus, the carriers will pay you rent for the tower. Think about it...

The hiking was unforgettable in the Santa Fe National Forest.

AFTER we arrived, we were informed that there was NO water available. We had to drive back into Santa Fe to get some. What POOR lack of information during the reservation process!! Inexcusable!
