Perfect campground to hike to Mount Mitchell. The trail head starts in the campground and is well marked all the way to the top. The showers were warm. The campsites are well spaced.

Great hosts, clean restrooms and well kept grounds and campsites.
Waterfalls and trails to explore. Lock up your food in the car at night as you are in a bear sanctuary.

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at Black Mountain. The management team members were very attentive and great to work with and kept everything clean. The campground was a pristine quiet space with access to great hiking.

Three adult females and three teenage girls camped here, working on Girl Scout badges. We had a great time. I highly recommend this campground. The staff was outstanding, the bathrooms and showers were great. We felt safe and truly enjoyed our time. The location for us to complete our hike up Mt Mitchell was perfect! I will definitely be coming back to this campground with my family. Highly recommended!!

First time I have been camping in about 40 years and it was great. Sleeping in a tent was a new experience for an old guy but overall I enjoyed the time and the campground. It's well maintained and in a beautiful location along the South Toe River. Facilities were great and I really appreciated the (unexpected) hot showers. I am planning to do this again soon

The three best things about this campground are: 1) camp hosts, 2) location, 3) cleanliness. The camp hosts are super friendly and happy to provide great information on hiking trails, things to do, or just provide balls and frisbees for the kids to play with. They also have various and sundry items, including ice cream, for sale at the office. The location is outstanding - a gorgeous campground right next to the South Toe River where you can fish, do short hikes to waterfalls, or big hikes to Mt. Mitchell. The facilities are extraordinarily clean and the water is warm for showers.
We visited in our travel trailer and stayed at the site w/electricity. Note that there are no water or sewer hookups, but there is a dump station about a mile back up the road. You can get water in the campground for your fresh water tank if you want, but we just dry camped. Of course, not an issue if you're tent camping.
