As expected our site has been flooded after a heavy rain, but we moved to another one without any issue.

Bathrooms and shower were very clean. Camping area was well maintained along with the convenience of the OHV right around the corner. You can see Hatteras lighthouse at night along with a nice view of the stars! Recommend for anybody looking for primitive site.

Campground was not crowded, even over the weekend, and the facilities are clean and well maintained. Good access to the beach and the MST through Buxton Woods. We saw lots of deer, rabbits and snakes.

This place is a little piece of heaven!! The sunrise & sunsets were spectacular! The bathrooms could have been cleaner. The weather was amazing and it was so peaceful! Visiting the old coast guard station and lighthouse is a must do! Make sure you arrive with a full tank of gas, we used much more than we anticipated. Bring bug spray for when the wind stops!!

Don't be trying to get to sleep anywhere near one of the facilities buildings after 10pm "quiet time". Many other campers just don't care about cutting right through the middle of your site, or shining flashlights at your tent.
But the grounds themselves are clean and well-tended, everything as advertised.

Cheap campsite, toilet and shower provided on site but the showers are obsolete without light and work with a rope . the ground is permanently soak. The location is near of a beautiful beach.

Make sure to bring a bathing suit, a body board or a surf board, and a kayak if you have them. The beach is right there, all around you. It's not crowded, so you have lots of space to spread out and play in the water. The beach connected to the campground had some strong waves (at least when I was there), but the beach just outside the camp is more gentle and had surfers catching tubes. On the weekend, the one supermarket nearby will be crazy h, so bring what you need foodwise before you get there. There were plenty of unused camping spots, so you don't need to camp near the front like I did... actually I wished I had picked something further in where no one had rented just to have some privacy. It was scorching hot during the day, but the night weather was just perfect for sleeping. Lots of ants that bit my feet up pretty bad so bring some repellent, or ant spray or something to fend them off. There were also some horseflies the first night that were absolutely relentless after they got into the tent. I finally had a "flymagedon" moment where I killed them all, and the rest of their community must have gotten the message because there were no more after that. There are bunnies and deer that frequent the park and are unafraid of the campers. You should go see the lighthouse and the museum, if only to get out of the tent into some air conditioning. But this camping spot is all about the beach. There were a couple sharks out in the water, but they stayed pretty far out. People are big into fishing for red drum from the shore, so you will see a lot of that at the beach. It was a dreamy camping experience except for the ants and the flies. The bathrooms were clean, but like I said there is no privacy like in other camping areas that have trees... this place is flat and grassy.

Fantastic site. The showers and bathrooms were clean. The lighthouse was absolutely peaceful throughout the evening. I was concerned the light pattern would be distracting but it was the opposite. On our first morning we had a sizeable flock of birds wake us up with their antics and chatter. That was an amazing experience. The deer were entertaining. The mosquitoes would make their appearance in the evening as the wind died down but I was well equipped with high capacity cans of deep woods Off. We learned long ago that when it comes to those tiger mosquitoes deet is the only way to go.
Overall, an outstanding campsite that is well maintained. Yes, it's on a barrier island and can have flooding occasionally. We found a couple of decent sites and had no issues.

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00 - $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South until you reach the village of Buxton. Signs for Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Cape Point Campground will be on your left. Follow Lighthouse Road until you reach Cape Point Campground on your right.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance. Continue on NC-12 South until you reach the village of Buxton. Signs for Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Cape Point Campground will be on your left. Follow Lighthouse Road until you reach Cape Point Campground on your right.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South until you reach the village of Buxton. Signs for Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Cape Point Campground will be on your left. Follow Lighthouse Road until you reach Cape Point Campground on your right.

Policies & Rules
General
- The campground is in a low lying area that floods easily after a heavy rain. Reservations may be canceled with limited notice.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- There is a limit of 6 persons per site, a maximum of 2 cars, or 1 car and 1 trailer, and a maximum of two tents.
- Pets are welcome but must be on a 6' leash at all times. Electronic collars are not considered a leash. Pet excriment must be picked up and disposed of in trash recepticles.
- Biting insects are prevalent in the summer months, therefore netting and repellent are recommended.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad; large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Vehicles cannot park on the grass.
- All campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are no shaded sites in the campground.
- The Access Pass and both the Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Pass are the only passes that provide a discount on the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party. The discount does not apply to utility hookups. The pass discount must be applied at the time of the reservation; it cannot be applied retroactively.
