Standing Indian Campground

We stayed ther twice this sommer with 2 different set of grandchildren. Both times they ask if we could come back next year with the whole family. Very clean park especially the restrooms and showers. We look forward to returning next summer.

We purposely chose the site because of it being across from the restrooms/shower house. My husband is disabled and the site is mostly paved going to the restrooms/shower house. Imagine our surprise when we got to Standing Indian for our 2 week stay to see the facilities were closed. We visited the camp store and inquired about this issue. We were told it would take 3 or more weeks for the parts to come in to repair the plumbing. We wish we had been informed of this issue by Recreation.Gov before we arrived at the campground.

Wonderful campsite! Needs better labeled recycling bins - I think they are only for cans and aluminum, but labels are long gone. There are many recyclable products thrown out as a result and the recycling bins contaminated because people don't know they are limited to these two products.

If you go, look closely to make sure that the wood you are being sold for your campfire is cured and dry so that it will burn. The showers do provide hot water, however they are a push-handle style (about 20 seconds), one-temp-fits-all, and provide an extremely hard and fine spray. The shower is housed in the same stall as the toilet, providing an unsavory lack of campsite sanitation. The toilety facilities function but are far from clean. Adding a surface for your toiletries or even a bench on which to sit or place towels would facilitate a much-improved experience, particularly when camping with children. The access roads thru the site are heavily pitted in many places, particularly the unpaved sections. Watch your tires and axles, especially after a heavy rain, which will fill the holes and make it difficult to see how deep the puddles are. As the entire camping site is deep within the woods, be prepared for what is normally a very damp and moist camping experience. Note also that there is no connectivity or cell services, and that should you desire to change the site to which you have been assigned, you will be required to leave the area to return to the nearest town, Franklin, NC, to use your device to access the Recreation.gov site and cancel your reservation and obtain a refund. There are many sites available (it's a pretty a big campsite) and upon your return you will have to pay immediately for your new replacement site.
