The location was nice! We wished there was a swimming area explicitly, but we made do by finding a place we could hop in & cool down. The campgrounds are a bit close to one another, but there is sufficient coverage between sites so you're not *staring* at one another. I think having a lakeside campground would have been beyond excellent! But alas we had an inner campground.

The location and campsite itself was amazing. The issue that made the experience pretty miserable was the loud music and obnoxious voices across the lake. Appeared to be coming from a lake house boat party. Who tf parties from noon until freaking midnight knowing the place is surrounded with campers?!
I would considered trying again, but I still need time to recover from the trauma.

It would be nice to listen to the outdoor nature sounds and not have to listen to generators running the entire day. There were two campers in nearby sites that had the motors running the entire weekend we were there. Very disappointing! Not very relaxing, the sound was annoying!!

Generators running all day, takes away from the serenity of camping in a national forest! Our neighbors were up at 4 o’clock in the morning after boating and drinking! But truly it was the generators! We thought we Were camping in a campground with no electricity and in nature, I shouldn’t have to listen to a generator all day long, It takes away from everything that we were there for, the beauty, the ambience, the nature!
And what’s up with the bathrooms not locking ???? Really kind of creepy and not OK!!! Invasion of privacy at its best!

We stayed in Upper Loop #30 at Badin Lake Campground. Location is key for low-elevation lake-side hike, hammocking, swimming, fishing -- can't beat it's proximity to the water. We do wish there was more than 1 "hikers-only" trail nearby (though it was a solid 6 miles). Sites are more private than the nearby Morrow Mt. State Park we stayed at 1 month prior -- more trees etc. Though a more dense forest equates to more critters... Other perks as compared to Morrow Mt.: larger picnic table, 2 lantern poles vs. 1, more sturdy fire ring, and private/individual bathrooms and showers. Though Morrow does have a mountain with multiple trails and is more commercialized (kid friendly). Whatever floats your boat -- 5 stars to both parks!

From Troy, North Carolina, take State Highway 109 north for approximately 10 miles. Turn left onto Mullinix Road (County Highway 1154), and travel approximately 1.5 miles to a stop sign and "T" intersection. Turn right, and go approximately 2 miles to another stop sign and "T" intersection. Turn right, then make a quick left and travel about 1 mile to the campground.
Badin Lake Campground is accessible via State Highway 109, which is located approximately 10 miles south of the campground in Troy, NC.
Elevation: 160 feet
15 mi drive to downtown Troy (about 25 min)

Safety & rules
- Prescribed burns may occur throughout the year, potentially causing smoky conditions.
- Respect fellow campers by keeping off-highway vehicles on designated roads and trails, and control children and pets in the campground.
Fees & deposits
- Single site rates are $20/night and $10/night with Access or Senior Access Pass; double site rates are $40/night with no discounts available.
Site types & loops
- Campsites 17 and 19 are first-come, first-served with no hookups; alcohol and fireworks are prohibited.
Vehicles & parking
- Off-highway vehicles are allowed on designated trails from April 1 to December 15, with required trail passes and trailering for unlicensed vehicles.
