This campground is like a maze and not signed very well. Can’t tell you how many times we saw people going the wrong way on what are supposed to be one way streets. Or maybe people just don’t care anymore. It’s also obvious that funds have been cut. Sites are not cleaned out in between bookings. The streets look like they haven’t been repaired in a long time. So sad. One thing that would help when booking sites is an ACCURATE online map of the sites. This goes for ALL of the campgrounds. The photos of the sites, however, are great!

Fort Hamby was a nice visit. We stayed 2 nights. The campsite was plenty long for our 33ft camper. There was water and electric.

Nice park. Site fairly level with plenty of shade. I am glad we did not choose to hook up satellite tv. Very friendly park attendant. Some maintenance items reflect the severe budget cuts to USACE Recreation Programs. Nice experience.

The overall Park is beautiful. We enjoyed all of our walks. The bathrooms were kept clean. There was not any noise and the campsite was clean. Unfortunately our grill was rusted and broken right off its post and we could not use that.

No complaints! All the RV sites we seen were great including the one we chose which was number 6! The bathhouse was a plus and was really pleased with everything about it! Only wish we were able to stay longer!

From Winston-Salem, North Carolina, take Highway 421 North (approximately 61 miles) and turn left onto S. Recreation Road. Continue for approximately 1.5 miles. Campground entrance is located at the end of the road.
From Charlotte, North Carolina, take I-77 North (approximately 60 miles) before merging onto Highway 421 North towards Wilkesboro/Boone, continue to S. Recreation Road (approximately 28 miles), turn left onto S. Recreation Road and go approximately 1.5 miles. Campground entrance is located at the end of the road.

Fort Hamby Park is accessible via Highway 421, which connects to I-77 North approximately 28 miles to the south.

General
- For Campground side only: If no attendant is in the gatehouse, Guests will self-check in using the gate code emailed to them at the point the reservation is made. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LAST SELECTED DATE ON CALENDAR IS YOUR DEPARTURE DATE!
- ATTENTION: Gatehouse will not make changes to your reservation. All reservations, changes, and cancellations must be made by the guest using Recreation.gov, by calling 877-444-6777, or using the Recreation.gov moblie app. The gate code will be delivered to the email address associated with the reservation. Highly recommend downloading the recreation.gov moblie app from the recreation.gov website prior to arriving at the campground.
- Alcoholic beverages and off-road (golf carts, 4-wheelers, etc.) are prohibited. Camping is permitted in designated campsites only, and only permitted to those who have a reservation. Most campsites have a gravel bases: bring padding for tents. All equipment much be placed within site perimeter.
- For Day Use Side of Park to include Shelters Reservations:The shelter reservation fee does include the $7 day use fee if the car is parked at the shelter parking area. All vehicles not associated with a shelter reservation will pay the day use at the kiosk. This fee is to be paid at the kiosk at the entrance to day use area (near gatehouse). The receipt from the kiosk is to be placed on the dash of the car as proof of payment. The playground and volleyball court are not included in your reservation. Those areas area available to all day users. Park only in designated areas. Parking at the shelter is not guaranteed. Carpooling is highly recommended.
