What Guests Are Saying

Washington Irving South offers a beautiful and peaceful campground with great views of the lake, clean facilities, and friendly staff. Many visitors appreciate the spacious sites, hiking trails, and proximity to Tulsa. However, some areas, particularly the restrooms and older sites, need maintenance and improvement, and there are concerns about sandburs affecting outdoor activities. Overall, guests express a desire to return despite some shortcomings.

When we arrived to WIRS there was a Squatter at our campsite. When I approached her in regards to our reservation on site 20… she started yelling at me and cursing me. It was very disturbing. There was no camp host or Ranger available. When I tried to wave a ranger down later… he just waved and kept going. The next time he round he never look our way.
She eventually left and we did camp that night but didn’t stay the next day. There was no reservation clipped to our site and no phone number on the gate house to call.

As others have said, many of the sites are far from level. The bathhouse was clean and the showers were hot with good flow rates. The picnic tables in a lot of the sites also seemed out of level and both our site and the table at the site could use some attention. Good rates for a site with electricity and water.

Beautiful park! Great hiking trails peaceful quiet park with a creek running along the back side to wet your feet. In a word wonderful! Just beware of chiggers, they are thick.

Very few of the sites are remotely level making set up tedious at best. If you like a tight knit campground with more of a party mentality this might be the place for you. Not much about the place made us want to return. Quite disappointing for a Corps of Engineers campground. Redeeming quality was the young man at the gate.

First and only time me & my family will ever stay at this campgrounds ! Although it was a holiday weekend, my family was there for over a week and weren't impressed. We had to get the COE to even mow the 1' high grass, fix the restrooms ( 1970's) basically, cause the hand dryers would shock you when pushed, there is only a couple of sites that are level so bring plenty of blocks or whatever you use. . The day user's overran the paying campers by using the camping area and not the designated day use area , and was allowed by the park rangers. No way I would stay here again.

Site was sloped too much for a motorhome. Used all the leveling blocks i had and still couldn't level. Web site said nothing about slop. Otherwise the park was nice and well kept.

I believe that if you bring your pet with you that you should make it be quiet early in the morning. since some people probably sleeping late.

We had a great time! The park was clean. Our neighbors were respectful. There were nice fire rings with grills. Restrooms were clean. I had never camped with electricity before, that was nice to run a heater. We enjoyed a nice hike around the water.

If you’re in a tent don’t stay at the end spots of the circle. You’ll be blinded by lights they have pointed at you all night. If you’re in an RV you’ll be just fine. One of the bathroom doors on the right is finicky and you have to mess with it to have it shut correctly.

Having stayed here in the past we were looking forward to another visit. Unfortunately our site #6 was on such an angle we could not put enough support blocks under our tires to level the rv. It was also littered with small pieces of trash and the surface was very fine sand “dust”.
Sites 7 and up are on the top side of the campground and in good shape, that’s where we were last time. Sites 6 and lower are on the lower end and need desperate attention. Bathrooms seem to have been moved from an old federal prison and need to be refurbished, we had our own in the rv so they weren’t a problem for us.
